Bear School Astartes

Chapter 7: 7. Perfect Mutation

Bordeaux’s trust in Lann stemmed from his performance clearly being very ”Bear School.”

Cold and ruthless like an iceberg, this was the impression Lann displayed to his mentor the moment his Demon Hunter transformation was completed.

Demon Hunters of the Bear School are mostly devoid of emotions, which often leads them to draw swords and kill for the slightest disagreement without the slightest mental burden.

But because of this, their hatred is also thin.

They only care about money and their physiological needs.

Summarizing these two things, it indicates that they only care about the ”maintenance of life” for themselves.

Bordeaux assured Lann’s safety and food and is teaching him Demon Hunter skills.

Although this process is unpleasant, even seemingly cruel, it is the truth.

In Bordeaux’s view, Lann’s thinking should not be much different from his, so there is no need to hate him.

But there is one thing Bordeaux never considered.

—What if Lann retained his emotions from the start?

What if his Demon Hunter transformation was actually perfect?!

Cheap blades screamed through the air.

Bordeaux’s pupils shrank suddenly, and even the hair on his body stood up directly at this moment!

No matter how cheap a Velen Longsword is, as long as it is a sharp piece of iron, it has the ability to kill!

Lann’s timing in throwing was critical, so crucial that Bordeaux even thought it was a coincidence.

Based on his knowledge of his apprentice, a young person’s combat experience shouldn’t be able to grasp this moment!

His entire body’s muscles were adjusted to a forward-charging state.

This was preparation made moments ago to violently kill a Sword and Shield Soldier.

But now, the stiff, taut muscles lost their flexibility.

Even if the transition from relaxation to tightness does not take half a second, in sword fighting, it only takes half a second to decide life and death.

He must charge forward; this is the action planned by his body’s muscles. Unless he wants to fall, he cannot change it.

Emotionless thinking helped a lot at this moment.

The man, standing like a brown bear, charged like a wall towards the Sword and Shield Soldier.

However, during this process, Bordeaux swayed his shoulders as if dancing.

The sword sheath fixed to his shoulder swung with him.

With a ”slap,” the Velen Longsword collided with the silver sword sheath for fighting monsters under Bordeaux’s extremely tense nerve perception!

Deflected directly.

If it stabbed into an empty sheath, it would probably pierce directly.

At the same time as he threw the Longsword, Lann immediately activated his body and charged toward Bordeaux, frowning slightly at the sight.

A Demon Hunter who doesn’t know how long he’s lived or how many monsters he’s hunted... Even before making a move, Lann had tried his best to overestimate Bordeaux’s strength, but he still had to admit the greatness of his mentor.

However...the result will not change because of that!

The determination in the young man’s eyes was as solid as rock.

”He is the only one wanted, there is no conflict between us.”

With one sentence, Lann awakened the bewildered Long Halberd Soldiers amidst the chaos.

Seeing the change in the battlefield and the powerful Demon Hunter, he had no choice.

He followed Lann with his halberd in hand.

A powerful enemy is the guarantee of forming alliances.

Lann’s throw is not to be underestimated; even though he is still in a state of hunger and weakness, and he just circled around with seventeen Plague Ghosts.

But it was a Longsword thrown by a Demon Hunter after all.

Bordeaux’s bear-like charging figure staggered as it was hit head-on.

But the old Demon Hunter’s experience and agility were terrifyingly strong.

Bordeaux did not fall because of this sudden impact; on the contrary, he raised his arms drastically, gripping the sword with both hands.

He completely gave up the defense of the torso, raising the exquisite Bear School Steel Sword over his head!

With forward-leaning gravity, power, and weight, all pressed onto the blade!

Furious downward slash!

”Ha!!!”

The Sword and Shield Soldier in front of him was almost scared silly.

Bordeaux’s towering figure cast a heavy shadow on his face.

He could only let go of his One-Handed Sword, brace both hands behind the half-shield, gritting his teeth and leaning towards the sword blade.

He was indeed a seasoned Sword and Shield Soldier; even when facing such a slash that a professional soldier might never see in a lifetime, he made the most reasonable response.

—hoped to intercept with the shield before the sword blade reached the optimal force point.

But the strength of the mutated humans, enhanced by magic, far exceeded the expectations of a ”regular veteran.”

”Boom!!!”

”Uh!”

In the muffled groan, the veteran’s eyes almost bulged out of their sockets!

The asymmetrical resistance structure of the incomplete shield was shattered, even with both hands holding it against the tremendous force, the shield surface still tilted.

The Bear School Steel Sword followed the tilt, directly scraping off a layer of wood and the Temerian White Lily emblem on the shield.

Then it plunged into the chain-mail shoulder guard!

The Sword and Shield Soldier’s face contorted into a twisted expression.

The small iron rings composing the chain mail were twisted, shattered, and then embedded into the flesh and bones of his shoulder.

At this moment, the Law Enforcement Captain could even hear the scraping sound of the steel sword and bone fragments through bone conduction.

Blood flowed continuously along the blade and armor.

The shoulder was half gone, leaving only the flesh under the armpit connecting the arm and body.

He’s done for.

Yet Bordeaux’s cold expression remained unmoved.

With the man’s screams, he suddenly pressed down the blade, pulling out the sword.

This is not merely pulling the sword; this move is professionally known as ”dragging cut.”

In the screeching sound of armor metal, the shoulder of the Sword and Shield Soldier was completely removed.

The already flowing blood had now turned into a ”jet” state.

Bordeaux not only aimed to completely eliminate a threat, but also hoped to intimidate other enemies.

This was very effective.

After severing the Law Enforcement Captain’s shoulder, two incoming arrows were easily deflected by his left wrist guards with the softness of longbows.

The Crossbow Arrow remained strong but lost its aim, only leaving a white trace on the armor.

This intimidating effect caused a psychological shock to the enemies in that instant, effective only during this round of shooting.

Afterward, these professional soldiers would quickly adjust their mentality.

But what Bordeaux wanted was only this period of time.

Because... he had to face his student.

Suddenly turning around, with indifferent and resolute eyes crossing paths.

Both understood —the other’s killing intent was firm.

Lann, holding only a hunting knife, charged ahead directly facing the mentor’s killing intent.

The terrifying killing intent cultivated from hunting countless monsters and the fresh blood on the beard from just cutting off a human arm still remained.

Now Bordeaux’s image, even if painted on a church as a ”foe of the gods,” would be fitting!

But in front of this terrifying scene, Lann’s steps remained steady.

The Bear School Steel Sword had already begun to tremble lightly before the swing.

Lann’s hunting knife guarded his chest, but this was a meaningless move.

No matter the power, reach, blade length, or sword quality, comparing from all aspects, he had no chance of resisting Bordeaux.

Even surviving under this sword strike seemed impossible.

His swordsmanship, compared to Bordeaux, was crude like juggling.

Maybe in the next moment, the crude cotton armor would be directly split into two with his body!

But...

”I don’t have to compare Swordsmanship.”

Lann revealed a smile to Bordeaux for the first time.

The man’s cat eyes even gently contracted because of this.

In the next moment, Lann, running, directly sidestepped and pulled out —a section of a Long Halberd blade!

The Long Halberd was carried by the soldier, and he was charging, following Lann.

And now, the trajectory of the halberd thrust was corrected.

The wide halberd blade pointed straight at Bordeaux’s torso.

And Lann agilely ducked down during the sprint, the dagger and hand reaching towards his mentor’s waist.

There was Bordeaux’s alchemy pouch.
