Chapter 572: Chapter 479: Strange Letter_3

Some people felt that the era of spiritual energy revival had arrived, so they bought a couple of Cultivation Secret Arts books and practiced until they ended up in the hospital...

In short, all the clandestine departments within Current Circumstances were operating beyond capacity. Consequently, the Social Security Bureau had also been swamped, unable to attend to other matters. Otherwise, Director Fu would have undoubtedly confronted that damn Broken Dog long ago.

Huai Shi was actually looking forward to watching that scene unfold. Regardless of who won or lost, it would be quite delightful...

As for the disaster preparedness classes, they were merely a precaution. If Sublimators like Huai Shi were required to attend, it would place immense pressure on the instructors.

Here’s a joke for you: the Beheading King of Jinling attending your lecture on proper disaster response...

Rather than worrying about that, it was better to worry about his own worst subject: math.

The crucial part was that Huai Shi didn’t understand it... and neither did most of the individuals whose fragments were stored in the Book of Fate. After Huai Shi killed someone, the fragments he could collect were purely a matter of luck, much like drawing cards.

Oddly enough, none of those bloodthirsty rogues were good at math. Otherwise, I might have been able to get some tutoring from them. Actually, this made sense. If they were truly studious, capable, and intelligent, why would they need to resort to crime to make a living?

As the college entrance exams drew nearer each day, Huai Shi couldn’t help but stroke his chin and consider: Maybe I should go chop up a few math teachers tomorrow?

”Speaking of which, since you’re not going to Vienna... what are you thinking of choosing for your college entrance exam preferences?”

Next to the window, Fu Yi, who had her back to Huai Shi as she petted the dog, suddenly asked.

”Hmm... I haven’t decided yet.” Huai Shi scratched his head. ”What about you?”

”I haven’t decided either,” said Fu Yi. ”My mother wants to send me to Rome, and my father plans to send me to Ji Xia... they have some connections on both sides.”

Ji Xia, huh?

Huai Shi scratched his head again.

Although Ji Xia University might not be well-known to ordinary people, it was, in fact, the surface-level affiliated institution of the largest organization of Scholars in all of Dongxia. In addition to enrolling Sublimators from the Dongxia Genealogy and members of the Social Security Bureau, it was also a place dedicated to cultivating specialized talent in related fields. Rome probably wasn’t much different.

Neither place would likely welcome someone with an Astronomical Society background. Even if I were treated courteously upon arrival, I couldn’t expect to access their true core institutions. I’d just have to be content with quietly spending four years there and getting a diploma.

Choosing college preferences was indeed a problem.

Maybe I should just settle for Jinling University of Technology?

「 」

Even into the night, Huai Shi was still mulling over this issue, still without an answer.

Soon after, he heard a COO COO COO sound from outside the window.

Looking up, he saw a gray pigeon perching on the windowsill, eyeing Huai Shi inside the room.

Suddenly, it asked, ”Is Mr. Huai Shi at home?”

”What?”

Huai Shi was stunned for a long moment before he recognized it. This was a unique pigeon from the Gray Shore Border, part of the Abyssal Border Tribe, who often served as messengers between borders due to their innate talents and abilities.

He had heard that after the recent earthquake in the Gray Shore, the entire area was nearly devastated, and this particular tribe of messengers had relocated, though no one knew where. He didn’t expect one to suddenly appear at his doorstep today.

”I am.” Huai Shi opened the window. ”May I ask what brings you here?”

”I have a letter for you. Please scan this code... and kindly give me a five-star review, thank you.”

The gray pigeon spread its wings, gave a shake, and a letter larger than its body dropped onto the table. It then skillfully turned around, presenting a QR code on its back for Huai Shi to scan.

After receiving its five-star review, the pigeon politely bid farewell and departed. Before leaving, it even asked if Huai Shi needed it to take out the trash—its service was remarkably thorough.

Meanwhile, Huai Shi leaned back in his chair, looking at the letter addressed specifically to him, scratching his head and wondering who could have sent it.

Old Liu? No, that’s not it. If he had something to say, he would have just texted on WeChat.

Then... Sister Xian? She had sent mail before, but it was usually postcards from different places and souvenirs. She wouldn’t send a letter without signing her name.

Lily? No, that wasn’t right either. She seemed to have been angry since last time and hadn’t contacted me since... She wouldn’t reply to my texts, which was baffling.

Could it be... a bomb?

Huai Shi’s paranoia, a kind of PTSD, suddenly flared up. He instantly retreated to the far end of the room, on full alert.

As he remained vigilant, the envelope Huai Shi had touched moments before suddenly began to vibrate.

As if recognizing Huai Shi’s unique signature, the envelope, sealed with Alchemy Fire Lacquer, unsealed itself. It revealed an exquisite letter, along with a thick stack of credentials and tickets, inside.

On top lay a sheet of exceptionally fine stationery, edged with what appeared to be real gold—Huai Shi could sense it probably weighed several grams.

As Huai Shi picked up the letter and read it carefully, he fell into a long stupor.

”What’s this all about?”

Touching his head, Huai Shi re-examined the keywords on the letter.

He froze on the spot.

Ivory Tower, university department, employed? Assistant Professor? Lecturer? What’s this? I haven’t even touched the edge of university, and suddenly I’m being offered a job?
