Chapter 633: Chapter 30 Scholars

...

The Beast Carriage traversed through the woods while Lin Feng lay on top, gazing at the blue and white sky, lost in a trance. The phrase ”one’s own Dao” still lingered in his mind.

Just as the Eternal God Monarch had established the ”Eternal Dao.”

What kind of ”Dao” should he shape for himself?

This was related to his own future.

Shee Weizhu looked towards Lin Feng and sighed, saying, ”Junior brother, why have you become entangled with the Demon Blade Nalan Jing? I fear that in the future, it may become a handle for others to attack you.”

”Yes, junior brother, even if you believe the Demon Blade Nalan Jing isn’t an Evil Demon, in the eyes of the great forces, he is still considered an Evil Demon. I am even a bit worried that once we return to our sect, the sect will severely reprimand us,” Wang Hu added.

Lin Feng said, ”Your worries are superfluous. The so-called righteousness and evil are clear in the minds of the upper echelons of these great forces. Often, it is merely a means to deceive the ignorant. You should be able to judge for yourselves.”

Shee Weizhu, Wang Hu, and others nodded as they too felt that a person like Demon Blade Nalan Jing did not seem like an utterly wicked Evil Demon.

”Junior brother, there is a small town up ahead, it should be Beiman Town. Should we stop there to rest?” a disciple asked.

”Sure, let’s rest in Beiman Town for a day and continue our journey tomorrow. Tomorrow, we will enter the Ancient Barbarian Jungle, which is fraught with dangers. Everyone needs to be careful,” Lin Feng reminded.

Everyone answered, ”Yes.”

Lin Feng nodded, then led everyone towards Beiman Town.

Beiman Town was the last town before the Ancient Barbarian Mine, and Lin Feng planned to purchase some necessities there.

They found an inn to stay in and Lin Feng allowed everyone to do as they pleased.

He did not stay in the inn but went out to purchase some necessities.

...

In the northwest corner of Beiman Town, a stout middle-aged woman and her thin husband threw out a blanket and some yellowed books, then their two sons chased an old man out of the courtyard.

”Is that Scholar Ning? What a sin. Scholar Ning is so old already; to think he is actually being driven out.”

Immediately, people started murmuring and pointing fingers.

The woman cursed like a shrew, ”You useless old man, you’ve just been reading for decades without securing any official rank or honor, do you just want to live here without contributing until you die? Pack your bags and get out of here as far as possible.”

”Jiesheng, are you really driving me away?” Scholar Ning climbed up from the ground and sighed faintly.

The skinny man known as Jiesheng sneered, ”Die as far away as you can, and don’t let me see you again.”

”What has happened here?” Lin Feng, seeing the old man who was driven out looking very pitiable, asked a bystander.

The person said, ”This old man, known as Ning Yin, styled Shuhai, is a scholar from our town. The ones driving him out are his nephew and his nephew’s wife. Scholar Ning lost his wife early in life and never remarried. Later, when his elder brother died of illness, he adopted Ning Jiesheng as his son, hoping to have someone to care for him in his old age. Now that Scholar Ning is old, Ning Jiesheng and his wife are thinking of kicking him out of their house.”

”Such a thing is happening?” Lin Feng slightly furrowed his brows.

Father’s kindness and filial children, that is the splendid tale among men.

But alas, what is seen today is father’s kindness and unfilial children.

”Jiesheng, even if you drive me away, you should at least give me a beast carriage to take these things away.”

Scholar Ning said.

His wife cursed, ”A beast carriage? You still want a beast carriage? You’ve eaten us out of house and home, just get out, or do you not believe I’ll burn your worthless books?”

Someone couldn’t stand it anymore and mocked, ”Scholar Ning originally had three compounds, a hundred acres of good land, and five shops, which are all still operating. Now that he’s old, he’s handed over these deeds to you, and you want to drive him out? Have you lost your conscience to a dog?”

”Yes, how much can an old man like him possibly consume from you?”

”Jiesheng, your father died when you were three, and it was your uncle who raised you. Your uncle expected you to support him in his old age, and this is how you treat him?”

The lean man named Jiesheng darkened his face and remained silent, but his wife barged into the courtyard, took out a kitchen knife, and cursed coldly, ”What business is it of yours? I’ll see who dares to meddle further, believe it or not, I’ll hack them!”

Watching the shrewish wife brandishing a kitchen knife, many people fell silent. After all, it wasn’t their family affair, and there was no need to pick a quarrel with her; only poor Mr. Ning was pitied.

Scholar Ning looked at Ning Jiesheng almost pleadingly, ”Jiesheng, remember the kindness of your uncle who raised you, just send your uncle a beast carriage, let me take these books away, and I will never appear before you again.”

Ning Jiesheng frowned slightly and looked toward his wife.

”Where is the beast carriage? Where is the beast carriage? You old thing, just scram.” His wife raised her right hand and was about to hit Scholar Ning.

”How dare you!”

Just as she was about to strike Scholar Ning hard, suddenly a young nobleman stepped forward and grabbed the wife’s wrist.

”Meddle in my business, and I’ll kill you.”

The wife swung the other hand holding the kitchen knife toward Lin Feng.

”You vile shrew, you truly deserve to die.” Lin Feng sneered, and he threw the evil wife out.

Bang.

The evil wife struck a wall hard, causing the entire wall to collapse, burying the evil wife under the rubble. She twitched a few times and then lay still, it was unclear whether she was dead or alive.

”He is a cultivator...” someone whispered, although the residents here were common folk, they had some understanding of the cultivators’ world.

”Spare us, please spare us.” Seeing how fierce Lin Feng was, Ning Jiesheng and his two sons were terrified and knelt to the ground with a splash.

”Old sir, are you alright?” Lin Feng turned to Scholar Ning.

Scholar Ning shook his head and said, ”Thank you, young friend for the rescue. I beg you not to blame them.”

”Why speak well of them naturally?”

”Yes, Scholar Ning, you’re too kind.”

Some neighbors talked amongst themselves. The evil wife, squinting and secretly watching, showed an astonishing vitality. Seeing Lin Feng looking at her, she quickly feigned death again. But since Scholar Ning did not want to pursue the matter further, naturally, Lin Feng did not pursue it either, as this was ultimately a matter for the Ning family.

”Jiesheng, give me a beast, I will leave here, and never appear again.”

Scholar Ning said, his voice very calm. Lin Feng read the pain in Scholar Ning’s aged eyes, which was quickly hidden.
