Algorithm system

Entrance Ceremony 1Algorithm iteration is a long-term job, so Lin Yuan does not need to be on duty at Good Group, sitting in front of the computer all the time.

This is the greatest charm of the IT industry—We can work anywhere, anytime. The software package sent to the client might have been written by someone while sitting on the toilet. You can imagine the rest.

Of course, there are prerequisites for this. You must be a formal employee. Outsourced workers do not have this benefit (no disrespect, keep working hard, young people).

Lin Yuan is not only a formal employee of a major IT company but also works in its Internal Research Institute.

According to the pecking order within major IT companies—third-rate people work on products and testing, second-rate people write business code, and first-rate people write frameworks and build tools. The Research Institute is full of pretentious people.

Lin Yuan belongs to the pretentious type.

He did not go through the various hardships of IT professionals but achieved SOHO (working from home) in one step.

Therefore, Lin Yuan, despite his busy schedule, managed to make time to attend the matriculation ceremony.

—

Actually, for Lin Yuan, there was nothing left to anticipate about the matriculation ceremony.

Ever since he relied on the system’s guidance to get into Tangcheng Institute of Technology and then Purple Gold Aviation School, he had become much more indifferent to prestigious schools. It’s not that he didn’t value famous schools anymore, but rather that he developed a kind of ”I can do it too” self-confidence.

Lin Yuan always had a feeling: the distance between him and China’s top C9 universities was just a childhood environment free from worries about food and clothing, someone to help him overcome his inferiority complex early on, and someone to help him build the correct mindset early on.

What was the system’s greatest help to him? It was precisely the establishment of self-confidence and the reshaping of his mindset.

After getting the system, Lin Yuan considered himself a cheat, invincible from then on. But when he achieved certain results, he looked back and realized that the system was just a tool and did not show its irreplaceable nature in the matter of studying.

As for the reshaping of his mindset, in a word, it was ”reading to understand principles.”

Lin Yuan’s mental reshaping relied on those times he painstakingly tackled abstruse knowledge points and the algorithm theories that would occasionally pop into his head while sleeping at night.

Of course, truly top-tier geniuses are not affected by their environment. Even if they study in the fields, they can still get into Tsinghua and Peking University.

But what percentage of such geniuses are there in Tsinghua and Peking University? Dare you count them?

If Lin Yuan had Beijing household registration, he wouldn’t just be looking at C9; he would dare to aim for Tsinghua and Peking University.

Therefore, the matriculation ceremony of a mere Purple Gold Aviation School lost its sanctity in his heart.

Lin Yuan revered Professor Zhang, his mentor who opened the door for him to enter Purple Gold Aviation School, rather than Purple Gold Aviation School itself. Who knows why the system insisted on guiding him to enroll in Purple Gold Aviation School? ’Could it be that I’m really supposed to go into aerospace later? Lead the future of all humanity?’

’But I’ll only live a hundred years at most, unless I become an immortal old monster, otherwise...’

’Forget it, let’s keep some dignity. What if the system can eavesdrop on my thoughts?’

Because he didn’t anticipate the matriculation ceremony, Lin Yuan simply took the time to meet Xia Ye before the ceremony, even if it meant being late.

—

Lin Yuan and Xia Ye met at KFC because Xia Ye said on WeChat that she almost couldn’t remember the taste of original recipe chicken anymore.

Gnawing on a drumstick, Xia Ye started to cry.

”What’s wrong?” Lin Yuan quickly grabbed a tissue to wipe her tears.

After blowing her nose twice, Xia Ye continued to sob, ”Why didn’t I think it was so delicious before?”

”Ah~~, earning money is so hard.”

Lin Yuan then pushed his piece over, ”You eat it all.”

”No, you eat too. You work hard delivering food.”

”I can’t eat anymore.”

”No, you eat too.”

”I really won’t eat.”

”If you don’t eat, I won’t either.”

”Okay, then I’ll eat.”

Lin Yuan wasn’t being polite with her; the software park where Good Group Zijin Branch is located has a large number of internet companies. With his Good Group Shanghai Research Branch ID card, Lin Yuan could freely go to the cafeterias of other internet companies to ”guide work.”

It’s the IT industry; might makes right. Who said the Research Institute is at the top of the pecking order? Although the people at those internet companies didn’t know Lin Yuan, it’s common for IT companies to transfer technical experts from other places.

Especially since Lin Yuan was so young and wore a Good Group Research Institute ID, he was clearly a technical Great God. What’s wrong with freeloading a meal? It’s giving you face.

But there were side effects.

When you eat someone’s food, you have to endure listening to others ask technical questions during meals. But there are too many branches in the IT industry; if it were the AI field, he could boast a few words, but in other fields, he was at a helloworld beginner level.

This is like a dentist who cannot treat cardiovascular diseases.

So, to avoid being exposed, Lin Yuan made an excuse, ”I work on algorithms; I don’t know much about programming. I mainly do mathematics.” This would scare away 90% of the questioners.

For the remaining 10%, it was, ”Why are you asking this question?” ”What is your thought process?”

Generally, the simpletons who delve into the mathematical abyss can’t help but ask and answer themselves. However, the time it takes for a meal is simply not enough to fully describe the problem, so Lin Yuan could always muddle through.

Afterward, for safety’s sake, Lin Yuan resorted to a killer move—directly packing up his food. This saved him from being asked endless questions.

As for the problem that he could only swipe his employee card and not pay with cash when buying food, no problem. He just had to record his phone’s NFC card into each internet company’s system.

Internet companies in a software park see each other all the time. As long as their level reached a certain point, asking someone to help record a meal card was like giving a packet of tea. Some companies even jointly operated the same cafeteria.

To be fair, Lin Yuan felt that Tencent’s cafeteria was the best. Perhaps too many people recharged in Honor of Kings.

So, how could Lin Yuan still eat KFC’s original recipe chicken?

But at this moment, Xia Ye had already held another piece of original recipe chicken to Lin Yuan’s mouth, ”You eat too, don’t save it for me.”

”Okay,” Lin Yuan, not wanting to spoil the mood, took a bite and accepted it.

Xia Ye immediately broke into a smile, tears gone.

Then Lin Yuan felt awkward because the piece in his mouth was, ’Damn it, why is it chicken breast?’

To match his current identity as a delivery driver, Lin Yuan had no choice but to bite the bullet and eat the chicken breast. He forced himself to swallow it, enduring the greasy nausea and the dryness that made it stick in his teeth.

”Oh, right, I told you last time. You don’t have to worry too much; I have money. It’s just that I sent it all home before, and I don’t have much left now. Wait until next month; I’ll have money when I get paid.”

”Huh? What is it?” Looking at Xia Ye’s expression, it seemed she didn’t actually intend to get money from Lin Yuan.

”I’ll transfer you 3,000 first, and I’ll give you more next month. You were too tired working three jobs before, so this period...”

Ugh~~, Lin Yuan hadn’t even finished speaking when Xia Ye started crying again.

”You’re really giving me money?”

”If you give it to me, do you still have some yourself?”

”Three thousand is too much; I’ll return it to you. Just send me 520.”

.

.

Facing Xia Ye’s incessant chattering, Lin Yuan could only pinch her nose, making it difficult for her to speak. (Who told Xia Ye she was still chewing on a drumstick at the time?)

”Be good, take the money. I have something to do, so I’m leaving first.”

”You... what’s the matter?”

”The delivery station manager is calling me; the late-night peak is coming.”

”Oh, then drive safely on your way.”

Xia Ye looked at the 3,000 yuan she had just received, somewhat at a loss. ’How long would he have to deliver food to earn this much?’

’He clearly likes original recipe chicken so much, yet he kept telling me to eat it.’ At this moment, only a few bones were left of the original recipe chicken on Lin Yuan’s seat (who knows how hard Lin Yuan tried to eat it).

On the other side, Lin Yuan was busy making a phone call.

”Professor, I’ll be there soon.”

”Your commendation segment is about to begin, and you, the main character, haven’t arrived yet.”

”Commendation segment? And it’s mine?”

”Oh. Hey~~, look at me, I’m getting old and forgetful. I forgot to tell you, it’s about your hundred-thousand-yuan scholarship.”
