Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 2154: Chapter 2155: Wrapping Up

”It’s neither blending nor alchemy?” Frode’s curiosity intensified. He wanted to continue questioning, but at this moment, Angel raised an eyebrow and looked towards the distant Star Lake Castle: ”Little Sam has begun to counterattack.”

Little Sam had been running away, looking completely panicked, at a loss.

Frode was certain that Little Sam would absolutely not succeed in this test. Yet unexpectedly, after nearly an hour, the constantly hiding and evading Little Sam actually counterattacked?

Frode’s attention was immediately drawn to the situation at Star Lake Castle.

With Frode’s capabilities, it was extremely difficult to see what was happening inside Star Lake Castle. However, Angel used illusions to present the situation within the castle before him.

After seeing what happened inside, Frode’s eyes lit up: ”Nice, nice, Little Sam timed it very well!”

The moment Little Sam counterattacked was precisely the moment when the ripples of holy light surged.

The purification of the holy light ripples was extremely thin and had little effect on Lady Cilla, but Lady Cilla was focused on hunting Little Sam and had not thought she would suddenly come under attack. The appearance of the holy light ripples made her lose focus for a moment.

Ordinary people probably would find it difficult to capture this moment.

But Little Sam’s reaction speed far exceeded that of ordinary people. The moment he felt Lady Cilla’s pressure lessen, he immediately charged toward her, launching his first and only counterattack—

Time rewinds to half an hour earlier.

In the second-floor corridor of the castle, after nearly half an hour of running, Little Sam hadn’t even achieved the basic goal of ’reaching the ground floor lobby.’

He repeatedly encountered soul blindness.

Thinking he was going down when he was actually going up. Thinking he was moving away from that terrifying undead with a human head and spider body, only to see it the next second when he looked up.

It can be said that during this half hour, Little Sam repeatedly hovered on the edge of death.

His clothes were soaked with sweat, his face pale, with blood stains and grime covering his body, making him look extremely miserable.

Under this high psychological and physiological pressure, Little Sam was on the verge of collapse. But his strong survival instincts made him pull back from the brink every time.

After running for almost half an hour and only getting to the second floor, Little Sam knew it was absolutely impossible for him to outrun Lady Cilla. The only solution now was self-preservation.

Forcing himself to calm down, Little Sam’s rationality returned. He began analyzing the current situation.

Although his contact time with Lady Cilla’s undead was very short, he could see that Lady Cilla did not intend to kill him immediately.

This does not mean Lady Cilla had any benevolence; rather, it indicated she harbored a more intense and deep malice toward Little Sam.

She didn’t kill Little Sam the moment she appeared simply because she wanted to watch his fear and screams during his escape, tormenting and brutally killing him under high pressure.

During previous chases and escapes, Little Sam frequently appeared within Lady Cilla’s attack range. The opponent didn’t kill him outright, and at the time, he faintly sensed Lady Cilla’s intention to torture him.

At that moment, Little Sam felt chills down his spine.

But recalling it now, his only chance of survival was actually to exploit Lady Cilla’s reluctance to kill him immediately, preferring to torment him!

Little Sam gritted his teeth and conducted an experiment.

While running, he deliberately stumbled, spraining his foot, and suddenly fell to the ground.

Instead of immediately getting up, Little Sam put on an extremely terrified expression, his whole body trembling, slowly turning his head... And then he saw Lady Cilla at an arm’s length.

Lady Cilla’s face remained as beautiful as the picture, she wasn’t twisted and grotesque like the other undead he had seen before.

A flawless, pretty face.

The only thing linking her to the undead was those eyes, seemingly burning with green flames in the dark.

However, below Lady Cilla’s neck wasn’t graceful; it wasn’t a human body but transformed into a giant spider with fine bristles and terrifying patterns. The spider’s abdomen even had a mouth full of fangs.

At such a close distance, Little Sam felt his heart skip a beat. Lady Cilla, however, smiled gently, slowly raising a foreleg filled with barbs, and fiercely swung it towards Little Sam.

In deep terror, Little Sam instinctively raised a hand to block. But his strength, compared to Lady Cilla’s, was like comparing a firefly to the moonlight. His hand split open, bone-deep, and he was forcefully thrown back by a powerful force, crashing into the wall several meters away.

With a loud bang, Little Sam hit the ground hard.

Muffled and pained cries came from Little Sam’s mouth, which pleased Lady Cilla in the distance.

Yet despite his fearful demeanor and exposed emotions, Little Sam’s mind was extremely calm.

This experiment once again confirmed his hypothesis; even when close enough that Lady Cilla could kill him at any time, she didn’t deliver the killing blow.

Even though his hand was bloody, he still had the strength to run.

Lady Cilla clearly intended to keep him running until he was utterly terrified, only then beginning her slaughter.

Little Sam didn’t defy Lady Cilla’s wishes; seeing her approach, he got up without hesitation and ran again.

He knew he had to keep running; that’s when Lady Cilla wouldn’t deliver a killing blow.

Moreover, he wanted to experiment on something else.

While running, Little Sam showed extreme unease and fear, occasionally looking back to check how far Lady Cilla was.

Lady Cilla was very satisfied with this reaction.

But what she didn’t know was that when Little Sam glanced back, he was observing Lady Cilla’s trajectory.

Little Sam’s left hand suffered a bone-deep injury, with blood dripping onto the floor. He watched whether Lady Cilla would walk over the bloody areas on the floor.

The experiment excited him; Lady Cilla bypassed the blood stains!

Where she couldn’t avoid stepping, she stomped hard but frowned as if stepping on the filthiest thing.

This confirmed Little Sam’s conjecture.

A few days ago, in the orphanage’s library, he read a ”Book of the Undead,” which documented a special undead transformed into a human-spider hybrid because of resentment toward blood relatives.

Upon seeing the half-human half-spider, Little Sam thought of Lady Cilla in the talent test and purposely memorized that section of the book.

According to the book, this type of special undead harbors great hatred for their blood kin both in life and after death, thus falling into malevolence after their demise. They exhibit an even deeper malice towards relatives with blood ties.

This special undead is incredibly powerful, and even a peak apprentice might suffer if they encounter one.

The compiler of the Book of the Undead suggests that upon encountering such special undead, it is best to report to the family or organization and send an Official Wizard to resolve it.

This suggestion is the most conventional, but the compiler also mentioned a non-mainstream method.

Special undead bear deeper malice towards blood kin not only because of the grievances from life and death but also for a crucial reason: the blood of the blood kin can greatly suppress the special undead.

Using the blood of a kin to suppress the half-human half-spider undead is what the compiler referred to as the non-mainstream method.

Since Little Sam hasn’t joined any Witcher Organization, it’s naturally impossible for him to seek help from one. The only way is to use this non-mainstream method.

To determine if his blood, as recorded in the Book of the Undead, would disgust Lady Cilla, Little Sam deliberately inflicted a bleeding wound and ran in the hallway to observe.

The fact proved that the Book of the Undead was correct.

Even knowing how to deal with Lady Cilla, Little Sam did not act immediately; he continued to flee.

He needed to use the time while fleeing to let Lady Cilla continue her pursuit, and in this process, find the best opportunity... the opportunity to deal with Lady Cilla.

Maintaining high alert, Little Sam ran for about twenty minutes. Finally, he saw an opportunity.

He vaguely saw a ripple of light, and when he thought it was a hallucination, his inner panic was inexplicably soothed to some extent, a state that was definitely unnatural. Little Sam glanced back, wanting to see Lady Cilla’s reaction, and then he saw a momentary daze in her eyes.

Little Sam didn’t know if Lady Cilla’s daze was caused by the light ripple.

But now there was no need to delve into it, the only thing he knew was that the opportunity he had been waiting for had finally arrived!

Little Sam’s face showed a look of determination, his steps halted abruptly, he decisively turned around, and rushed fiercely towards the dazed Lady Cilla with his bleeding hand...

...

A piercing scream shattered the deep nightfall.

Frode watched the ”live illusion broadcast,” seeing Little Sam with a huge gash across his waist and abdomen, blood gushing out, seemingly having lost all mobility, lying on the cold floor.

Little Sam’s situation was already terrifying, but on the other side, Lady Cilla was even more horrifying.

Half of Lady Cilla’s head had already been corroded.

Little Sam’s blood was like the most potent aqua regia to her, capable of directly corroding her soul body.

Just like Little Sam, Lady Cilla collapsed on the ground, and the previous piercing scream came from her mouth.

Little Sam, clutching the wound in his abdomen, slowly dragged himself to lean against the wall, looking at Lady Cilla, who couldn’t stop screaming, with a pale face showing a faint smile:

”In the end, I won.”

According to the Book of the Undead, as long as the blood of the kin is applied to the undead’s forehead, it can directly reach the depths of the undead’s soul body, causing the undead to be trapped to a certain extent.

If the blood of the kin is poured into the undead’s mouth, it can completely corrode and destroy the soul body from within, thereby killing the undead.

After leaping over, Little Sam not only smudged Lady Cilla’s face with blood but also shoved his hand into her mouth.

Even when Lady Cilla reacted in the end and slashed at Little Sam’s chest and abdomen as a counterattack, it was different from the previous petty skirmishes, as it was full of murderous intent. But even so, it was too late.

Moreover, Little Sam had long anticipated Lady Cilla’s fierce resistance, so at the last moment he stepped on her body, forcibly turned around to avoid having his organs torn out, resulting only in a blood gash on his waist and abdomen.

Compared to Lady Cilla’s collapse, what did this minor injury amount to?

At least, he survived.

Little Sam looked at Lady Cilla, who was unable to move, and couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

On the hill outside the castle, Frode’s eyes were filled with admiration.

It could be said that Little Sam seized the most opportune moment and executed the most splendid countermove!

Although Little Sam relied on the advantage of his blood kin, he was still a mortal. Defeating a special undead with a mortal body was proof of Little Sam’s courage and wisdom.

”Did the lord deliberately give the bronze bell to Neya? Just to give Little Sam a chance?” Frode turned to look at Angel beside him.

Angel smiled without directly answering, instead saying, ”This fleeting opportunity would be hard to seize without keen observation, calm judgment, and fearless courage.”

Frode nodded and said with some emotion, ”Switching to someone else, even a Wizard Apprentice, it might have been hard to seize the opportunity. Little Sam did a beautiful job... If Little Sam can maintain such a mindset in the future, he will surely find his own path.”

Previously, Frode felt this trial was too difficult, like Nis gave an impossible blank test.

But now looking at the test paper Little Sam submitted, at least in Frode’s view, he was very satisfied.

The only pity is...

Frode shook his head and said softly, ”Is it my turn to step in?”

Angel nodded, ”He has already done his best, the finishing work is up to you.”

Frode smiled, and in a flash, disappeared from where he was. Angel also leapt down lightly, gliding slowly towards the direction of the castle.

Meanwhile, in the second-floor corridor, Little Sam’s face became very pale due to excessive blood loss. He started to tear his clothes with all his strength, intending to wrap the wounds on his hand and waist temporarily, just to hold on until he could find some medicine to stop the bleeding.

However, just as Little Sam was tearing at his clothes with all his might, Lady Cilla, who was lying on the other side, suddenly moved.

Little Sam heard a rustling sound, and his heart was immediately alarmed as he lifted his head to look over.

He saw Lady Cilla, whose head was mostly corroded, slowly standing up, raising her sharp front limbs, and stumbling towards Little Sam.

At this moment, Little Sam’s body was completely immobilized, and only one thought remained in his mind: why hadn’t Lady Cilla completely perished? Was the book’s record false?

Just as this thought arose, a white light flashed before his eyes — the sharp gleam was caused by Lady Cilla swinging her front limbs.

Little Sam instinctively closed his eyes.
