Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1985: Chapter 1986: Old Friend

Angel was now beneath the divine chasm, at the entrance to the Mirror World.

He could see that the caverns’ walls had regained their brightness, and the people of Windmill Town had survived the liveline disaster and resumed their work. Numerous merchants, pushing carts laden with goods, had arrived before the Mirror World, waiting for the gate to open so they could enter and trade with the transcendent beings within.

The appearance of Angel and Sanders attracted the attention of some of the Earth’s Heart humans. However, when the crowd deduced their transcendental identity, they lowered their heads and dared not look further.

Nonetheless, these ordinary people did not shy away, indicating that the transcendent beings from the Barbarian Cave actually had a normal attitude towards mortals. At the very least, they would not oppressively harm them.

Sanders nodded towards Angel without saying anything and started walking towards Windmill Town.

Angel was preparing to enter the Mirror World. His timing coincided with the period when the Mirror World was open to mortals.

Just then, a slightly curved mirror surface suddenly emitted a faint glow, and a youth clad in a black leather jacket with a cold expression appeared from the reflection. After his emergence, he said nothing, directly moving to the cliff’s edge, arms crossed, gazing at the mortals dragging their goods.

Clearly, he was the apprentice overseeing the mortals’ entry and exit this time.

”Step onto the mirror surface in order, don’t pull any tricks, or you know the consequences.” The youth spoke as he extended his hand, caressing an odd spider crawling out from his sleeve.

Despite his young age, his gaze was evidently sharp and icy, looking at the mortals without a trace of emotion, as if he was a god above, and they were ants groveling on the ground.

Due to the youth’s overly arrogant demeanor, combined with the fear from the spider on him, a merchant intending to fawn on the transcendent with a delicate box halted as well.

The youth noticed the merchant’s behavior and merely sneered with derision in his eyes.

The youth’s gaze wandered and finally settled on Angel.

Angel was already standing on the mirror surface.

The youth opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but ultimately said nothing. Because opposite him was a man with red hair and golden eyes, who, even without emitting any aura, exuded a daunting presence just by standing there.

Angel could restrain his aura, but there was no need to.

The youth acknowledged Angel’s transcendent identity and his superior strength, thus he dared not act rashly toward Angel and merely stood quietly aside, not looking at Angel again.

Angel, meanwhile, was scrutinizing the youth, thinking to himself, ”Indeed, coldness and cruelty have been etched into his bones. Although he used to be cynical and resentful, he was not as extreme as now, viewing humans as mere insects, completely forgetting he’s human too.”

Yes, Angel recognized the youth.

——Feng Man.

He was one of the gifted ones Angel had brought from the Old Earth Continent to the Barbarian Cave. Feng Man, along with Gu Yina who was crippled into a human stick, had personalities marked by notable egoism. Even at a young age, they were cruel and merciless, ensnaring others’ lives was commonplace for them, regardless of the other’s favors or even if the other was just a child, they could still kill without changing their expression.

To Feng Man and Gu Yina, good and evil were never of concern, only survival mattered to them.

Although Angel disliked their ways, considering their survival environment, he could accept it. Otherwise, Angel would not have brought them all the way from the Old Earth Continent to the Barbarian Cave.

Feng Man’s current transformation was actually within Angel’s expectations. Initially, Feng Man was already a mad and cruel person who cared little for others, with the only exception being Gu Yina; upon contact with the transcendental world and exposure to some biased views of certain transcendent beings, such as ”Wizards have ascended beyond humans and no longer belong to the humble human race,” Feng Man’s evolution into this state was natural too.

Back then, when Angel first entered the threshold of transcendence, he actually pondered over the supposed question ”Do wizards still count as humans?” Later, he deemed it a false proposition and stopped dwelling on it. This was because Angel had a complete worldview, which Feng Man lacked. His heart was full of hatred, making him susceptible to these sentiments.

Angel could discern Feng Man’s thoughts but did not intend to correct him. Whatever Feng Man contemplated, it was merely a shift in his conduct, perhaps having a minute influence on the distant future, but showing no changes in the near or mid-term. Moreover, Angel saw no need to interfere in his life.

As each mortal dragging their goods stepped onto the mirror surface, Feng Man shed his impatient expression, moved back to the mirror’s center, and prepared to open the passage.

Then, as the mirror surface illuminated with faint light, a girl in a beast-skin skirt suddenly emerged from the cliff passage.

”Honorable Wizard, can you wait a moment?” The girl dragged a pouch nearly twice her body’s size and stepped out from the cliff. Clearly, she was also planning to enter the Mirror World for business.

Feng Man didn’t even glance at the girl, merely snorting coldly, ”Get lost.”

The girl’s face turned pale, standing at the edge of the mirror, somewhat at a loss.

Angel’s brow raised slightly, this girl... he had seen her before, it was just the other day when he first went to the ruins with Tree Spirit, encountering refugees from the Eternal Night Country. As it was, Angel had advised the girl that the only way to survive was to jump into this divine chasm.

Unexpectedly, she actually jumped. Seeing her now with large packages of beast skin to sell, she probably wasn’t the only one who jumped; it seemed half of the tribe had entered Windmill Town.

Though Angel had essentially saved the girl at the time, he didn’t intend to stand up for her now. Missing this entry wouldn’t matter, she could wait for the next one.

Moreover, Feng Man had accepted the task and was executing it by the rules, he had the right to refuse those not entering at the designated time.

However, just as the girl was dejectedly preparing to return to Windmill Town, a tall man emerged from the tunnel.

”Wait a minute.”

Feng Man was visibly annoyed, raising his head to look at the person speaking. He was about to rebuke, but when Feng Man saw the newcomer, his expression instantly changed.

Feng Man paused the passage opening, clearly abiding by the man’s suggestion without saying a word.

The man walked up to the girl, patting her shoulder, ”Let’s go, I need to enter too, let’s go together.”

The girl and the man smoothly reached the mirror surface.

Angel looked at the man with a peculiar expression... how come old friends kept appearing after a long absence?

For Angel was not unfamiliar with this man. Indeed, he was one of the gifted ones who entered the Barbarian Cave with Angel, although due to certain hard-core reasons, he was eventually assigned to Rogers outside the Mirror World.
