Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1298: Section 1299 Delegation

“`

Richard’s intention to leave momentarily stiffened, and a piercing light flickered in his eyes.

Without hesitation, Richard bowed slightly to Angel and said, “Alright!”

He feared that a moment later, Angel would revoke the commission.

Nowadays, let alone searching for people, even if he were to be asked to find a cat or dog, he would accept! Life was that pressing, and the hearth at home had not been lit for quite a while; had it not been for help from friends, he probably wouldn’t have made it through this exceptionally cold winter.

“I’ve been living in Waterford since my childhood, and I’ve had contact with both the upper nobility and the lower poor. As for searching for someone, you can leave that to me with absolute confidence!” Richard solemnly guaranteed, patting his chest, “May I know who the young nobleman wishes to find? Perhaps, I could recognize them right now.”

...
“I’m not certain of his appearance, but his name is Flinton, a sailor by profession. He isn’t a local from Waterford; his hometown is Sea Moon City. He should have recently arrived in Waterford in search of relatives who have become refugees due to the war.”

Upon hearing this, since it was not a local, Richard’s gaze filled with hesitation. The war had just ended, and Waterford had a large number of refugees staying; the influx of outsiders was vast. Judging by Angel’s tone, the man was probably not wealthy, and it wouldn’t be easy to locate a person with such limited information among the countless commoners.

At this moment, Angel took out a bag of coins: “This money is a deposit. Once you find him, I’ll give you a reward that’s double the deposit.”

Listening to the clinking sound of coins in the bag, Richard swallowed hard. If his hearing was correct, the sound should be that of silver coins, and judging by the size of the bulging bag, there had to be at least ten silver coins!

He was going through the most depressing phase of his life at the moment; not to mention ten, even half of that would give him the confidence to survive this harsh winter.

Furthermore, the other party had promised that, once the person was found, a reward double the deposit would be given.

With this in mind, Richard no longer hesitated and immediately nodded, “Such a small matter, leave it to me with no problem! How about, young nobleman, you accompany me now to the detective agency to sign a contract? Or, you could leave an address, and I can visit with the contract in hand?”

Angel shook his head, casually tossing the coin bag to him: “No need, signing a contract is too time-consuming—just come find me when you’ve located the person.”

Richard caught the coin bag with deft calmness, considering Angel’s indifferent demeanor and thought to himself that this must be the noble way of doing things… Since the other party did not demand a contract, Richard did not insist, but began to inquire about the methods of handling the person search.

“After you find him, you can come to Pat Manor in Gru Town to find me.”

Angel mentioned some details for after finding Flinton, then departed, with the snow quickly erasing their tracks.

Richard tightened his grip on the bag of coins, exhaling a long breath of relief.

Watching the fading figure in the distance, Richard finally recalled the address mentioned: “Could it be Gru Town’s nobility manor?”

Surprise flashed through Richard’s eyes. He remembered that not long ago, Princess Shannon had paid a visit to Pat Manor. It was rumored that Princess Shannon wanted to bestow a reward on Viscount Pat, but was refused. Although this was only a rumor, Richard knew that since then, Waterford’s nobility circle became a lot more wary of Pat Manor, and the individuals who came from Gru Town were treated with exceptional generosity, which led the refugees who originally planned to stay in Gru Town to regret deeply. It was said that Gru Town used to receive refugees and even provide them with land, but now, they didn’t shelter refugees at all.

No wonder the other party was confident enough not to sign a contract, because if he offended someone from Pat Manor, he probably wouldn’t be able to continue mixing in Waterford.

However, Richard had professional ethics too. He had no intention of reneging on a deal, and he murmured, “Flinton, only recently arrived in Waterford, searching for refugee relatives, logically one would first go to the city hall to look up the population, but since the nobleman came from the city hall, he must not have found anything… Well, let’s start with the refugee camp.”

Richard casually scooped up some snow to extinguish the tobacco that was already only burning faintly and walked off into the snowy mist.

…

On the other side, Angel assigned Richard to find someone simply as a spontaneous backup plan.

He pushed the thought aside as soon as he turned around because he actually believed in White Bear’s judgment—Flinton should be fine.

Still, just to be safe, a search wouldn’t hurt. With Waterford’s large population and no clue of what the man looked like, it was best to leave it to Richard to investigate.

On his way back to Pat Manor, White Bear pondered, “If it really comes down to it, should we ask for external help?”

His prophetic ability was insufficient due to the restraints of his own talents and powers. If the task were given to Dororo or Mentor Maya, they should be able to get some effective information.

“You can ask Suise about this. If he’s willing to provide the materials for opening a Plane Corridor, it wouldn’t hurt to inquire upon returning,” Angel replied.

Apart from Sanders, the others weren’t aware he planned to take the servants affected by the Crimson Authority to the Wilderness of Dreams. So from their perspective, this was primarily to rescue Eulica, and indeed Suise should pay a price. Moreover, the changes at Pat Manor were also a consequence of their actions.

White Bear knew he was at a disadvantage and mumbled, “After we return, I will inquire with the Red-Haired Lord.”

“`

White Bear fell silent, and Angel’s mind became more active. He glanced at Sanders, and perhaps due to a magical connection, the next second a Psychic Branch bonded him and Sanders.

“Mentor, if we really can’t find Rolando, then letting Dororo make a Prophecy with the information we have should be possible, right?”

“It’s hard to say, but the chances are indeed higher than White Bear’s.” Sanders’ mental fluctuations came through.

“Then, if we really can’t find him, maybe we could try that route.” But if they were to really take that path, even if he weren’t short on money, he must make Suise take a stance — at the very least, make them owe him something; otherwise, he would indeed be at a loss.

By the time they returned to Gru Town, it was already noon.

Upon Fuyi’s return, he felt a freshness completely different from other places. Although Gru Town was also covered in snow, it was just a light snowfall that didn’t impede the daily toil of the people; moreover, the moment he stepped into Pat Manor, the anxious feeling in his heart significantly subsided. Even the concentration of the Primordial Magic Power around was noticeably higher than outside.

And all of this was thanks to the “Goddess of Spring,” Metheor.

Angel, driving the Gondola, stopped directly at the cloudsoil where Metheor resided.

Suise was near Metheor at that time, with bottles containing the blood of the Crimson Authority’s master laid out on a table before him.

They were not present the night before, but thankfully, according to Suise, Eulica, although still in her mad state, didn’t break out of the Exile Space last night; it’s probable that White Bear’s return had a stimulating effect on Eulica.

“However, such stimulation likely won’t last long. We must quickly find the person hiding in the shadows.” Suise looked towards Angel, who sat opposite him, hoping to get some good news from them.

White Bear briefly recounted their journey, and although the effective clues they obtained weren’t significant, they at least managed to narrow down Rolando’s location with the help of King.

However, Rolando’s exact position was still undetermined.

After listening, Suise fell into a prolonged silence, also pondering a countermeasure. But still, no effective method arose; even a thorough search wouldn’t be easy to find someone determined to hide.

In the end, without a useful plan, they parted ways unhappily.

After everyone had left, only White Bear and Suise remained near Metheor.

“Can we start with this blood?” White Bear asked, pointing to the glass bottle.

Suise: “It’s difficult. I’ve studied it all night. Although the blood here was originally a vital essence, its primary use has already been spent on ‘Blood Origin Retracement.’ These are just some scraps of marginal information.”

“An exceptional sense of smell can’t trace its origin. Blood curse methods can’t lock onto this stale blood.”

The only way to utilize this blood currently is to find a Prophet Wizard or a wizard who has profound research on blood.

Prophet Wizard… Suise can’t count on that, for if they expose this bottle of blood, Eulica’s situation would inevitably be revealed, so that’s not an option.

And for a wizard well-versed in blood, Suise immediately thought of Sanders’ disciple—Flora.

However, Flora did not accompany them here, and moreover, Suise did not have a plausible reason to ask Sanders to send Flora over here.

After pondering for a moment, White Bear shared the idea he mentioned to Angel with Suise.

“Seek help from your Mentor’s brother?” Suise: “Are you sure he can help you without exposing Eulica’s information? And can he really predict Rolando’s location?”

“Dororo’s prophetic talent is very strong. Although it’s uncertain whether he can see Rolando’s location, I think the possibility is high. However, he might not necessarily help me.” White Bear showed an uneasy expression: “But his relationship with Angel is good. As long as it involves Angel, or if Angel asks for his help, he definitely won’t refuse. And because it involves Angel, he won’t speak to outsiders either.”

White Bear’s reasoning indeed tempted Suise.

Nevertheless, since Dororo was an outsider, Suise had some private doubts. Besides, to seek Dororo’s help, Angel’s cooperation was necessary. Suise didn’t know if Angel would be willing, and even if he were, it would probably incur a debt of favor.

Furthermore, the cost of using the Plane Corridor once was exceptionally high.

His Magic Crystals were almost entirely spent on Mental Potions, squeezing out the materials for casting the Plane Corridor wouldn’t be easy.

Suise contemplated for a moment: “Let’s wait for now. Since Rolando intends to control Crimson Authority, he shouldn’t be far from here. Let’s search the vicinity first, and if all else fails, we’ll consider this path.”
