Chapter 970: Chapter 423: Griffin and Unicorn

Gazing upon the Stars, this dish from the outside looks somewhat like dark cuisine and horror, especially with several dead fried fish directing their heads toward the sky, quite intimidating.

However, seeing Mogiana’s expectant expression, Laine could only choose to pick up his knife and fork. On a personal level, Mogiana and he had that kind of relationship, and on a public level, Mogiana was his superior. The entire country’s Holy Grail Knights pledged allegiance to Mogiana, so looking at the Lake God Witch’s expectant gaze, Laine smiled wryly and nodded, ”This dish looks a bit scary.”

”That’s how Northern cuisine is, this dish is easy to make, simple, and the ingredients are cheap. If there’s no sardine, herring would do.” Mogiana adjusted her skirt and sat beside Laine, ”Try it, I can promise, the taste is definitely not bad.”

After a few bites, Laine discovered the taste was quite good, and he began to understand. Gazing upon the Stars is actually not hard to stomach, it’s just that the presentation is poor.

At the end of dinner, Mogiana served a dessert, also very famous in Northern Brittania, Yorkshire Pudding.

By now, the sky had turned to night, and the bright moonlight spilled over the valley where the Lake Fairy Tower stood. It was perpetually shrouded in mist, surrounded by moonlight and mist. The valley was full of grass and flowers, always in bloom, regardless of season or time, with a glow enveloping it.

The Lake God Witch’s long dress swept the ground as she held onto Laine’s arm, the two strolling within the valley, casually chatting about the kingdom’s current political situation. Initially, after dinner, Laine wanted to leave, but Mogiana very ”considerately” expressed that he might need a walk to digest and insisted Laine accompany her for a walk.

”Knight Commander Eugene of the Holy Grail Knight Order’s Kulona Branch reported to me. Most of the Northern Dukes support Lorne becoming the next Knight King. In reality, after Richard appointed Lorne as regent, Richard has essentially ceased performing the King’s duties.” Mogiana said to Laine, ”Since Lorne took charge of political affairs, there’s been a notable improvement in the Northern situation. The towns and villages destroyed during the Barbarian invasions are slowly being repaired, and the escaped slaves have returned to their places under the Pacification Edict. Some Knightly Expeditionary Armies have replenished the number of knights who died in battle.”

”I know about that. Recently the Empire has also entered a temporary period of stability; after their failed invasions, the Northern Barbarians need at least three to four years of recovery. Green Skin harassment remains confined to Kakasong Duchy and Bastogne Duchy. This is a good opportunity. I’m planning, after next year’s spring sowing ends, to organize a large alliance army with Francois to attack Black Stone Stronghold.” Laine shared his plan with Mogiana.

”Heinrich Kemler, he is a renowned Undead Mage, once a human.” Mogiana nodded. She tugged Laine to sit at the pavilion in the valley, feeling the chill wind on her body, and introduced Heinrich Kemler’s past: ”He was once an outstanding human Mage, a time before Savior Ludwig founded the Royal Wizard Academy and before the Great Holy War began.”

”Hmm.” Laine indicated he was listening, but Mogiana only said the opener and then smiled silently, her sharp gaze fixed on Laine.

You know what to do, right?

Laine fully understood Mogiana’s meaning. He wrapped his arms around the Lake God Witch and placed her on his lap, signaling her to continue.

Mogiana’s stature was somewhat taller than Amelia, probably around one meter sixty-five. Nestled in Laine’s embrace, she rested on his chest. The Lake God Witch contentedly grasped Laine’s hand, continuing: ”Since the Empire back then was intent on eradicating and apprehending these Mages, Kemler chose to stay in the Border Prince’s Domain. Kemler’s excellent Magic Talent not only quickly made him a formidable Wizard but also taught him one thing: that human’s short lifespan doomed him to never mastering magic nor reaching its limits. So Kemler made a major decision.”

”...I’m not going to be human anymore?” Laine laughed as he spoke.

”That phrasing is a bit strange, but Laine, you’re mostly correct.” Mogiana comfortably snuggled within Laine’s embrace, her bare feet swinging back and forth under her long dress, demonstrating this Lake Fairy’s First Divine Chosen’s good mood: ”To extend his lifespan, Kemler began ceaselessly researching Undead Magic. By the age of forty, he could independently awaken an entire Undead Army and command them.”

”When the available knowledge on Undead Magic couldn’t satisfy Kemler’s needs, he started to lead his army to plunder those Religious Sanctuaries and Wizard Towers. His army grew throughout a series of wars, but his enemies also increased. To defeat this terrifying Undead Mage, the Border Princes sought the Empire’s support and assembled a sizeable army, defeating Kemler and his Undead Legion in the Battle of Thousand Skulls. Forced to leave the Border Prince’s Domain, Kemler wandered with a Undead Legion in the Gray Mountain Range. During his wanderings, Kemler found a Divine Artifact he sought—the Staff of Nagash, stored in the La-Mesnil Abbey. The rest you know; Francois led the Winford Duchy’s Knight Army against Kemler in the Battle of La-Mesnil, and in a pivotal duel, Francois sliced off half of Kemler’s head.
