Vampire Progenitor System

Black fluid pooled beneath the broken armor as Korrath’s body finally went still. The last embers of white fire guttered out one by one until only smoke rose from the cracks. Lucian stood over him in silence, shadows still coiled tight around the plaza as if expecting the corpse to rise again. Zane kept his hands in his coat pockets, red eyes unreadable. Anita’s blood ribbons slowly retracted, the floating strands darkening as the fight’s leftover power drained away.

Zane spoke first, voice low. ”He’s gone. No residual termination left. Whatever he gave her took everything.”

Anita glanced at the empty cavity in the chest plate. ”He ripped his own core out and forced her through. That wasn’t desperation. That was choice.”

Lucian’s jaw tightened. ”He bought her time and power. We should assume she’s stronger now.”

Across the ruined districts, the civilian zones told a different story. Ella moved through a collapsed residential block with efficient, sharp commands, directing shadow guards to clear rubble and seal unstable buildings. Luna walked beside a line of evacuated vampires and humans, notepad forgotten, using her calm voice to keep panic from spreading. When a secondary shockwave from the earlier battle cracked a support beam, she pulled two children clear without hesitation.

Vina and Rey held the outer perimeter. Vina’s blades were still drawn, eyes scanning every rooftop and alley for secondary threats. Rey stood at her back, the two of them moving like they had for decades—quiet, coordinated, absolute. A group of wounded civilians stumbled toward their line. Vina stepped aside just enough to let them pass, then resealed the gap without a word. Rey gave a short nod to an approaching Origin support team and redirected them toward the worst of the structural damage.

Ella caught Luna’s eye across the street. ”Casualties?”

”Lower than they should be,” Luna answered. ”The outer barriers held longer than expected. Most of the civilians were already moving when the worst hits came.”

Vina’s voice carried from the perimeter, flat and practical. ”Two blocks east still need clearing. Rey and I will take it.”

They moved out together, blades ready, the long habit of protecting the realm settling over them like old armor.

Far from the capital, in a barren stretch of broken void where the unstable rift had dumped her, Selene collapsed to her knees. Korrath’s core pulsed in her hands—dense, heavy, still warm with the last of his fire. Starlight flickered weakly along her arms.

She stared at the core and felt the grief hit like a physical blow.

Flashbacks came without mercy.

Korrath standing over her after their first joint mission in the Loom, white fire low and steady, telling her in that grinding voice that hesitation got partners killed. The two of them walking the edge of a dying reality, arguing about whether Aeloria deserved retrieval or erasure. Quiet stretches between hunts where he said little and simply existed beside her, a constant mountain of certainty. The rare times he had laughed—short, rough sounds that always surprised her. His final look when he shoved her through the tear, one eye still burning, choosing her survival over his own without ceremony.

Selene’s hands shook. The black voids of her eyes glistened.

”You absolute fool,” she whispered. The words cracked. ”I was supposed to cover you. Not the other way around.”

Grief turned sharp and hot. She pressed the core against her chest. The termination energy and white fire inside it resisted for a moment, then poured into her like molten metal. Pain lanced through every layer of her being. Her starlight form fractured, sealed, and fractured again as the foreign power rewrote her from the inside.

She screamed once—short, raw—then locked her jaw and forced the integration to continue. Memories of Korrath fueled the process. Every shared hunt. Every argument. Every silent understanding. The grief became a forge. The core’s power sank deeper, fusing with her erasure and starlight until the two forces stopped fighting and began to coexist.

When the light finally settled, Selene rose slowly to her feet. Her form had changed. Edges of pure white fire now traced the lines of her starlight body. The black voids of her eyes carried faint embers. The air around her bent differently—heavier, sharper, carrying both erasure and termination in the same breath.

She looked back toward the direction of the Vampire Realm, expression cold and absolute.

”I will finish it,” she said quietly, voice steady again. ”For both of us.”

Back in the capital, Zane watched the last smoke rise from Korrath’s corpse. ”She’s going to come back harder. We all know it.”

Lucian nodded once. ”Then we make sure the realm is ready. No more surprises.”

Anita’s blood ribbons finally vanished completely. ”I’ll coordinate with the outer teams. Civilian sectors first. Then we reinforce everything that cracked.”

The Origin members spread out across the damaged plaza and beyond, coats torn, bodies marked, already shifting from battle to the long work of holding what they had paid for in blood. In the quieter streets, Ella, Luna, Vina, and Rey continued moving civilians out of danger, their own quieter fight still unfinished.

The first Reaver was dead.

The second had left carrying his heart.

And the night over the Vampire Realm felt heavier than before.

In the quiet of the starfire realm, Aeloria stood at the edge of a floating island and watched Lucifer from a distance.

He sat in deep meditation, black hair still, crimson eyes closed, the air around him bending subtly under the weight of his Pseudo-Divine presence. Power circulated through him in slow, controlled waves—blood, shadow, and something older moving in perfect rhythm.

Aeloria’s gaze drifted past him, toward the outer void, as if she could see through the seals and layers of reality. Her expression tightened. She had felt the distant clash, the fall of one Reaver, and the sharp surge of power when the core changed hands.

I never accounted for his underlings to be this powerful, she thought. The Origin Clan. The Draugr. The clone who fought like a true Progenitor. Forces built in silence, refined over decades, strong enough to drag one of the Loom’s hunters to the edge of death.

She looked back at Lucifer, still motionless in meditation.

If they are this powerful... then how powerful are you?

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

What have you been hiding?
