The Ultimate Evolution

Mr. Darkness’ explanation left Sheyan a bit puzzled. According to common sense, if the robot disintegrated, they should have passed the mission. Why would it trigger a catastrophe instead? Wasn’t it a good thing to defeat the enemy without fighting?

But Mr. Darkness’ following words explained everything.

“The energy core of this robot is a nuclear core. Once the robot disintegrates, the nuclear energy will go out of control….and the mission item will also be destroyed. That’s exactly the error in judgement our MT made the the last time we came here. He attempted to slowly drag the fight on in order to trigger the disintegration of the robot. When the nuclear explosion happened, he was right in the center of the explosion zone. He was really lucky to be able to use a life-saving item in time, so he managed to survive.”

Party Ace could see that Mr. Darkness was sincere in cooperating and had not concealed any information from them. Sheyan and Reef looked at each other when they heard the new intel. Then, Reef raised his dark gold shield and stepped forward to try the enemy’s attack power.

When Reef took out his shield which shone with a dark golden glow, he instantly became the focus of the show!

The drop rate of shields was notoriously low. In addition, the higher the quality of a shield, the lower the drop rate. Normally, with the effort of the whole party, one may be lucky enough to get a shield of silver storyline grade, but a dark gold shield? Those don’t appear on the market at all!

In other words, even if a small party like the Five Wheels got their hands on a dark gold shield, they probably would not be able to keep it! Why? Because if they put the dark gold shield up for sale, the profit would be enough to upgrade the strength of the whole party by a notch. If they let the MT use the shield, only the MT’s strength would be upgraded.

Any party would choose to upgrade the strength of the whole party instead of upgrading the strength of just the MT.

That was why the people from Five Wheels simply could not understand Party Ace’s team building method. They already felt really hard-pressed supporting one unofficial MT (an MT without a defensive innate ability), so how did a small party like Party Ace support two official MTs?!

When the giant robot saw the intruders, it put its right hand on top a table next to it and pressed down hard!

With a deafening crack, its metal palm pressed through the tabletop. It then grabbed the table and hurled it at the intruders!

The metal table that weighed about two to three hundred kilograms was lifted like a toy. It traveled over twenty meters as it spinned and smashed into Reef.

But the table proved to be no difficulty for Reef, who lifted his shield unhurriedly. The sharp edges on the side of the sun-shaped shield easily cut through the center of the metal table. In the midst of a spattering of sparks, the huge, heavy laboratory table was cut into two at the middle. The two sections broke off and slid on the floor, producing a large amount of sparks as they did so due to their terrifying momentum! The test tubes, flasks and other apparatus inside the table shattered all over the ground and covered the entire area in broken glass.

Hill seemed really concerned about whether Reef could successfully tank the robot. With a wave of his arm, a paper talisman that was as red as blood floated towards Reef. When the talisman appeared, the temperature in the hall immediately went down by several degrees. Party Ace did not think Hill would dare to play any tricks, so they let the talisman be.

Unexpectedly, when the talisman was about halfway to Reef, a sudden white light flashed. After that, something strange happened. Several child-like angels flew to the talisman out of nowhere and caught the blood red talisman between them!

The surface of the paper talisman immediately started smoking. A ghastly wail came out of it. Then, the talisman was very aggressively torn into pieces by the angels. The talisman pieces hissed when they fell to the ground, then dissolved into spots of colourless water. After that, the little angels flew away happily and disappeared into the air.

When Sheyan saw this, he exchanged glances with Zi. It appeared that Mr. Darkness had not lied to them. This military base was built on the ruins of a church, and the genuine Shroud of Jesus, one of the seven holy relics, was hidden in the site, so darkness type spells and magic were subjected to significant weakening here.

But Hill, despite his failure to release the spell, immediately took out a similar talisman. In fact, he hurled three of them in succession, and finally one of them was successfully pasted onto Reef’s body. Five pieces of blood red human bones instantly appeared, continuously revolving around Reef like satellites revolving around the Earth.

This was the ‘Bone Shield’ spell of Hill’s secret art. When the target was attacked, the bones would absorb 33% of the damage. There were five bones surrounding Reef at the moment, which meant that the next five attacks to land on Reef would have their damage reduced by 33%.

Mogensha had long since hid behind some cover. He now raised his gun and started firing. It seemed like Brother Black had remodelled his golden AK again. Right now, two legs extended from the front end of the AK like the mounting brackets of a light machine gun, firmly supporting the AK on top of the cover.

The tongue of flame at the muzzle was a meter long. Bullets poured out of the AK and burrowed themselves all over the head of the robot in no time at all. Even the surrounding walls and furniture were damaged as the hail of bullets left numerous holes in them. Broken pieces splattered and bounced everywhere.

The robot reacted like a human; it lifted its left elbow to shield its head, then charged in the direction of Reef. There was a shield-like protrusion on its left elbow which could expand to a size which covered its entire body. The shield could withstand the shots of 125mm tank cannons. Mogensha’s shots thus stopped posing a threat to it. The bullets bounced away when they met the shield.

The robot was already in front of Reef in but a few seconds. It raised its right hand and smashed down on Reef. On its right hand was a rotating wheel with sharp, jagged teeth which was constantly making a shrill sound, like a chainsaw.

The jagged wheel was designed to cut through the metal armours and equipments of other military targets. In a previous battle, even the composite armour of a main battle tank, with the addition of an add-on exterior armour, could not resist the cut of this titanium alloy wheel!

Reef raised his dark gold shield to meet with the chainsaw wheel without hesitation. Amidst the harsh sound of friction, the sparks from the collision spurted more than ten meters high! The durability of Reef’s dark gold shield rapidly declined, but the robot’s high-speed rotating wheel was also emitting smoke. The smoke was sparse at first, but it quickly turned into a dense black smoke. Then, the rotating wheel exploded.

While the two sides were in a deadlock, Zi had already drawn five or six strange patterns in the air with her dagger. The others could not see her attack, but they could see that the armour of the robot at the side facing Zi had become distorted and damaged. The special rubber fillings inside shot out of the gap amidst the dazzling light of leaked electricity.

Corinna and Hill, who knew of Zi’s strength, was not too surprised, but the rest of Five Wheels including Mr. Darkness felt as if something sharp had stung and twitched inside their hearts when they saw Zi’s performance.

They fought the powerful robot before, so they naturally knew what level of force was required to damage the robot to this degree. It would take the power of their whole party half a minute to inflict the same degree of damage on the robot!

But this woman did it in just a dozen odd seconds!

The robot suddenly retreated a few steps and jumped up high, then came crashing back down with the overwhelming force of Mount Tai. Thick puffs of black smoke came out from the engine hood on its back. As soon as the robot started the attack sequence, the members of Five Wheels rapidly retreated in a panic. Mr. Darkness also immediately issued a warning to Party Ace!

After it jumped up, the robot folded its hands together and slammed them down fiercely onto Reef’s shield, sending Reef flying. Then, the robot rushed over towards Zi and Mogensha at a high speed. Its charge carried such momentum that anyone in its path would instinctively feel like retreating.

But Zi and Mogensha both chose to ignore Mr. Darkness’ warning. They stood where they were in a relaxed manner and continued to attack, completely ignoring the threat that was approaching quickly from the front.

On that day, Five Wheels suffered heavy casualties the first time they faced this attack. Three people were retired on the spot.

Now, as they watched the battle from the side and saw how Party Ace reacted, they gleefully anticipated the same thing to happen to Party Ace. However, as Reef was blown away, another figure rushed forward in a diagonal sprint to block in front of the robot’s charge.

The figure appeared extremely small in front of the gigantic robot, but with a roar, a strange illusionary phantom emerged behind him, so large it almost covered the sky. The figure proceeded to send a fist towards the robot’s knee!

It was Sheyan!

‘Beast of Corrosion’!

Sheyan was hit by the robot at the same time and was sent flying as well, but the spot where the giant robot was punched inexplicably started decaying and turning rusty. The rusty spot expanded rapidly. The parts inside groaned and clanked while electricity leaked out to the surface. Black smoke also started emerging from the decaying areas.

Because the giant robot was still sprinting fiercely, it had no choice but to continue using the injured leg in order to maintain its balance. This naturally led to more damage done to the leg. A clear limp started appearing in its gait. With every step, the abnormal sound that the injured leg made became more obvious.
