Slime Evolution

Chapter 308 - Can we really do this?

Lohan felt resistance in his digestion.

It was like trying to digest heated metal that burned him from the inside and fought against his own biology.

However, through the circulation of biosynthetic mana, he realized something fascinating: the energy the Monster used to protect itself, though hostile, was rich and concentrated!

As he digested the Monster’s outer shell layers, Lohan felt his core of holy light vibrate with ecstasy.

The Monster’s divine energy, when processed through Lohan’s digestive filter, did not weaken him, but strengthened his own holy light.

This was a perfect nemesis: the more the Spider tried to repel Lohan with corruption, the more ”fuel” it gave the Slime’s light to shine intensely.

”You... are rich... in resources...” Lohan thought with such aggression that the Level 15 creature took a step back, merely from sensing the malice in the Slime’s voice.

Lisa, sensing the change in Lohan’s aura, didn’t stand there stunned and immediately seized the opening.

She activated Spectral Step, appearing in a blind spot above the Monster’s head.

With both tails glowing like plasma torches, she delivered a kick imbued with spiritual fire directly into the beast’s red eyes.

-- SCREEEEEEE!!! --

The monster’s scream shook the very foundations of the cave.

Blind and enraged, it began lashing out wildly at the air, trying to crush the duo besieging it.

Lohan, now acting with reaction speed heightened by his keen instincts, shaped obsidian tentacles that acted like whips of light—though black—striking the creature’s legs and injecting paralyzing venom into every fissure opened by Lisa’s flames and its own slow digestion.

The head-on battle between the three was a blur of primal colors, with Lisa’s white, Lohan’s blue, gold, and black, and the Sovereign’s absolute darkness.

Alice’s group, following Lohan’s peripheral orders, despite sustaining constant injuries, still kept the swarm of insects at bay, creating a safety corridor for the leaders, who were currently their only hope of getting out of this place alive.

They stared in shock at their Vice-President, realizing that Halon was no longer just a ”buff backpack”!

He was fighting on equal footing against an Elite two levels above him, demonstrating physical and magical independence far beyond what they had imagined possible for a Slime!

However, Lohan knew he couldn’t maintain this level of consumption for long.

The effort to maintain synaptic synchronization with the entire guild, while sustaining direct combat—even as he tried to digest the opposing monster—was draining his biomass reservoir at a rate far greater than the rate at which he could absorb it.

He needed his final trump card.

He ordered all his remaining clones scattered across the battlefield to retreat and merge with his main body, returning to Lisa’s back.

Lohan’s mass expanded, completely enveloping Lisa in a living armor of obsidian and light.

”Lisa, ignore the defense. I’ll clear the way for you, and I just need you to unleash everything you’ve got at its central core when I give the signal!” Lohan transmitted, his mental voice exuding a gravity that seemed to weigh a ton, yet showed only a slight hint of exhaustion.

Lohan activated the super mass expansion, engulfing not only Lisa but extending colossal tentacles that wrapped around the Spider’s body. The monster tried to break free, its claws relentlessly slicing through Lohan’s gelatin, but the Slime ignored the pain it caused, letting the hemolymphatic tissue drive its digestion to its absolute peak.

At that moment, Lohan forced his metabolism into a state of overload.

He was attempting to ”disintegrate” the existence of the Level 15 Elite. His biomass processing rate surpassed the absurd mark of 40,000 units per hour.

The Sovereign’s divine energy reacted violently, attempting to nullify the acid corrosion with sparks of black and golden light exploding ceaselessly at the point of contact.

Lohan felt his own higher magical core burning under the stress, but the reward came next: as he digested the monster’s opposing energy, his holy light underwent a temporary transmutation, becoming an incandescent white flame—something that proved extremely powerful for digesting the monster.

The Spider’s shell, once impenetrable, began to soften and bubble under Lohan’s touch.

The creature let out a scream that was no longer one of rage, but of absolute terror.

”LISA! NOW!” Lohan’s mental roar sounded almost desperate.

Lohan instantly retracted his mass from a specific point on the Spider’s chest, creating a vacuum tunnel that exposed the monster’s beating heart, where the corrupted mana was densest.

Lisa, fueled by the peak of Lohan’s Holy Light, launched herself through the tunnel at the enormous creature.

She concentrated every drop of her remaining spiritual energy into her jaws and claws, her white and gold spiritual fire exploding into a pillar of celestial destruction.

The blow began to land, but the spider didn’t react.

Seeing that, despair welled up in everyone’s hearts.

’It can’t be... we really can’t even kill a Level 15 Elite?! How are we supposed to raid an entire dungeon?!’ That was practically everyone’s thought.

There was a second of icy silence before the chamber was flooded by an explosion of golden light that swept away every remnant of corruption and every remaining insect minion.

The shockwave was so powerful it hurled Alice’s group against the walls, causing the most severely wounded to spit blood, yet they still struggled to stay on their feet, looking around in a mixture of despair and hope.

When the light dissipated, the remains of the Level 15 Elite monster lay on the ground, being swiftly assimilated by Lohan’s final digestion.

The blue Slime, now glowing with a heavenly purity, rolled off Lisa’s back and came to a stop in the center of the chamber, atop the creature’s corpse, feeling its sacred light pulsing with a vigor he never imagined possible so soon.

Lisa sat down, exhausted, her white fur emitting a faint smoke, but her golden eyes were fixed on Halon with an admiration she could no longer mask beneath her aristocratic facade.

[You have slain the Sovereign of the Corrupted Web!]

[Experience Gained: +12,500]

[Your Holy Light resonated with the purified essence. Progress toward the next fusion level has permanently increased!]

[Congratulations to Astralis Requiem for killing Elysium’s first Level 15 Elite Monster!]

Lohan vibrated his membrane with joy upon reading that message, finally feeling the weight of victory.

He looked at Alice, Dylan, and the others, who stood in reverent silence before the crater where the monster had been seconds ago.

”To be honest... I think we need to train a little more for Saturday’s Dungeon.” Lohan said, a thumbs-up icon appearing on his gelatin, drawing a celebratory howl and laughter from the entire guild.
