Chapter 88: Chapter 36: Adventure in the Rain

”We can’t be sure yet about the connection between this TDI login audio and the ’Midnight Bus.’ Maybe...”

Yu Xian didn’t continue, because he remembered what Yang Yiyi had said—that their team was likely the only one to have made any substantial progress in MCH research.

Suddenly, a much more practical problem leaped into his mind.

”Senior Sister.” Yu Xian turned his head abruptly, staring at Yang Yiyi.

”Does your team’s research management system keep access logs? Like records of who logged in, when, and what they viewed.”

Yang Yiyi froze for a moment, and then her face turned deathly pale.

Her hands began to tremble violently as she frantically switched back to the system’s main interface and clicked on ”Log Management.”

Access Log - User: Mo Du, Action: Logged into email system, Time: 2025-11-14 13:45:23

’It’s over.’

Yu Xian felt a cold sweat break out. ’The record of his advisor’s account being logged into... it’s already exposed Senior Sister Yiyi.’

Although the logs didn’t show the specific content she viewed, basic logic raised a major red flag: you were asked to perform a cold data backup, so why would you log into the account owner’s email system? That was clearly something very difficult to explain.

”I-I didn’t think the system would record that...” Yang Yiyi’s voice trembled.

”Don’t panic, don’t panic.” Yu Xian forced himself to calm down, his mind racing.

’This is undoubtedly a dead end.’

’Senior Sister Yiyi was only authorized to back up data, yet she logged into her advisor’s private email. That’s a major taboo in any research team.’

’And while that email account contained a secret transaction of unknown origin and dubious nature, they didn’t know if it was illegal, much less if it was connected to the Midnight Bus.’

’Because of how blockchain works, they couldn’t even prove that the wallet address corresponding to that hash address transfer belonged to Professor Mo.’

’It’s all just speculation.’

’It was a trade-off. If they reported it to the police and Professor Mo was found to be completely compliant and legal, then the problem would fall on them.’

’Even more dangerous, what if that vast, terrifying force behind TDI found out about this...?’

’They were capable of callously manufacturing so many smiling suicide cases; dealing with a student who knew too much would be incredibly easy for them.’

”Senior Sister, can these logs be deleted?” Yu Xian asked while scanning the various buttons on the page.

”I don’t think so...” Yang Yiyi shook her head in despair.

There was no delete button. The logs were stored for one month.

Yu Xian took a deep breath and made a swift decision.

”Senior Sister, we can’t stay here. We have to leave. Now.”

”Leave? Where can we go? Back to the dorms?” Yang Yiyi was clearly flustered, no longer the composed strategist from her student council days.

”The dorms are definitely not an option...” Yu Xian said, analyzing the situation quickly. ”If I were them and I discovered someone had touched these files, the first place I’d look for you is your dorm. And even...”

He glanced at the blinds; people were still roaming around outside.

’They might even use this chaos to stage an ”accident.”’

’For example... Yang Yiyi dies tragically in the riot, or goes missing.’

’It’s a plausible excuse.’

”Then where do I go? Home? But with this downpour, there’s no transportation...”

”Come to my place.”

Yu Xian cut her off, speaking hurriedly.

”Your place? Don’t you live in the South District?”

”No, I rented a place off-campus a while ago. I haven’t been back in some time, so it’s empty.”

The more Yu Xian thought about it, the more feasible the plan seemed.

”It’s some distance from the school, the security is decent, and no one would know you’re there. After a month, the log will be overwritten. If no one notices this login by then, you should be safe.”

Yang Yiyi composed herself and nodded.

”Okay, I’ll do what you say.”
