Invincible Snake Emperor

Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Experiment Failed

Amidst its continuous, wretched hisses, the Mangshan Iron Head’s Snake Pupils had turned into a Sea of Blood. It began to thrash about violently again, its tail lashing out and striking the table as if only such actions could possibly alleviate its agony.

SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!...

Even Dongfang Ye was dumbfounded by the scene, somewhat frightened by the snake’s state.

It had gone berserk. The snake had completely lost control, furiously whipping the long table. But as it thrashed, something even more incredible happened. Its body was changing, growing at a speed visible to the naked eye.

Flesh seemed to sprout inch by inch as the Mangshan Iron Head’s body began to lengthen and thicken. It grew from just over two meters to a venomous snake roughly three meters long.

In a mere instant, it had grown by a full meter.

Its Qi—the aura emanating from the snake—grew more savage and bloodthirsty. Its gaping, bloody maw was incomparably ferocious.

BOOM...

The long table finally gave way under the Mangshan Iron Head’s torment and collapsed with a crash.

But even then, the Mangshan Iron Head had no intention of letting the collapsed table go. Its tail swept back and forth relentlessly while its gaping maw let out lawless hisses. The sound was like a mournful wail, like the desolate cawing of a crow in winter, crying out the greatest agony in the world.

To put it bluntly, the snake had gone mad. It had gone completely berserk.

Seeing this, several staff members who were taking notes quickly pulled Dongfang Ye back to safety.

The Mangshan Iron Head’s appearance was simply too terrifying. Its Snake Pupils were like demonic rubies, their scarlet gleam piercingly bright and filled with bloodlust and savagery.

Dongfang Ye stood outside the lab. Through the glass, he saw Dr. Snake standing perfectly still, calmly continuing to observe the Mangshan Ironhead Snake’s changes.

He wasn’t worried that Dr. Snake was in danger. Even if this snake went completely wild, Dr. Snake could still control the situation.

No one knew the terrifying methods Chen Mo had for dealing with venomous snakes. He was like a Snake King among men; any venomous snake in his hands was like a mere child.

”ROAR...!”

A bloodcurdling roar echoed from the lab. The Mangshan Iron Head’s body had grown significantly larger again, its abdomen bulging as if about to explode.

Just then, the Mangshan Iron Head, which had grown to nearly four full meters, threw its head back and roared once more. The sound was a mournful wail that caused the very air to tremble.

A chilling Qi blasted from its body like a sudden gale, as cold as the dead of winter.

Suddenly, with its Snake Pupils filled with bloodlust, the Mangshan Iron Head leaped up from the ground. Having lost all reason, it opened its gaping maw and lunged toward Dr. Snake, aiming for a Devouring strike.

It wanted to kill, to eat someone. Beneath its gaping maw, a row of mutated, pale-white fangs was a ghastly sight.

Dr. Snake, Chen Mo, furrowed his brow, his expression turning grim. He watched with a cool, impassive gaze as the crazed snake attacked him, not retreating even half a step.

”Quick! Go protect Dr. Snake!”

Seeing this from outside, Dongfang Ye shouted out in alarm. Although he had complete confidence in Dr. Snake, he couldn’t help but lose his composure at this critical moment.

BOOM...!

An explosion ripped through the lab. Flesh and blood splattered through the air. Before the Mangshan Iron Head could even reach Chen Mo, its bulging abdomen burst open. Its head slammed into the ground, and after a few violent convulsions, it stopped breathing and died.

In that instant, an extremely thick stench of blood filled the lab. One whiff of that smell was enough to make you vomit up an entire day’s worth of food.

Immediately, a crowd of staff members rushed in from outside. They carried the Mangshan Iron Head’s corpse out at once and began to purify the contaminated air.

’It failed in the end. It seems this modern Snake Species couldn’t withstand the Giant Snake’s genes and was destroyed by the backlash.’

After a long moment, Dr. Snake spoke softly. His expression showed no significant change, but he couldn’t help but feel a sense of loss in his heart.

He had discovered this Mangshan Iron Head in Mangshan, bringing it to the world’s attention. Although it was a rare Snake Species, its life potential was still lacking. It couldn’t withstand the Giant Snake’s genes.

No great scientific experiment can succeed easily. You can only succeed through repeated attempts.

However, in this world, trying hard doesn’t guarantee success. But not trying at all guarantees failure.

And so, this Mangshan Iron Head, a nationally treasured Snake Species, died a miserable death. It was just a single step away from leaping the Dragon’s Gate, but in the end, it couldn’t cross that threshold.

Dongfang Ye walked back in from outside. He felt nothing about the Mangshan Iron Head’s death, as if it were just an ordinary venomous snake that had died.

You have to understand, a rare Snake Species like that had a market price starting at a million, at least. In the eyes of an ordinary person, that was an astronomical sum. But for Wencheng’s largest group, this amount was practically nothing.

Although this experiment had failed, Dongfang Ye wasn’t disappointed. In fact, he was a little pleased.

Why was he pleased? Because in that failed snake, he had seen a glimmer of hope for success.

Dr. Snake’s theory could work. After all, a venomous snake just over two meters long had, right before their eyes, forcefully grown to more than four meters.

Four meters. What did that even mean?

It meant the Giant Snake’s genes had broken the snake’s own shackles. You must know, the final length and size of every snake species is predetermined by its bloodline and genes.

Whether human or animal, you only get one growth period. There are no second chances to develop.

The Giant Snake’s genes allowed the Mangshan Iron Head to break its body’s limitations and undergo a second growth phase, shooting up to four meters. That was already an incredible feat.

It was just a shame that even as a rare Snake Species, the Mangshan Iron Head still couldn’t withstand the powerful genes of the Giant Snake and ultimately exploded.

’However, that just goes to show that the Mangshan Iron Head’s potential is limited. It doesn’t mean the Doctor’s research direction is wrong.’

”Doctor, don’t be discouraged. Keep up the good work.”

Dongfang Ye walked over to Chen Mo’s side and gently patted his shoulder in encouragement.

Dr. Snake, Chen Mo, frowned slightly and said, ”This failure doesn’t matter much. The problem is that finding another rare Snake Species for the experiment won’t be so easy.”

Rare Snake Species are incredibly hard to find. Even for the vast Shanye Group, this Mangshan Iron Head was their only venomous snake of such a rare class.

It’s like trying to find the person with the highest IQ out of a million people. There are over three thousand Snake Species in the world, and their total population is inestimable. For a snake to be considered a rare species, it must not only have a noble bloodline but also be uniquely blessed by nature with an exceptionally tenacious Life Force.

The failure of this one experiment was a small matter. The bigger problem was that the entire research project would have to be shelved immediately for lack of a snake.

For a research fanatic like Chen Mo, a single failure was nothing. But being unable to continue after a failure... that was true torture.
