I Can Devour Spirits

Chapter 693: Chapter 427: Saber Aura (Part 2)

At this moment, the Arrow Boar suddenly stiffened its back, its Primordial Qi surged, and a flurry of arrow spikes shot out, enveloping the few inner sect disciples in a rain of arrows.

Two of them moved slightly slower, already hit by the arrow spikes. Fortunately, these spikes were non-toxic, and they had guarded their vital spots, so even if struck, it wasn’t in critical areas.

The Arrow Boar tried to break through amidst the chaos but was firmly blocked by the group.

Duan Rong avoided this area, changed direction, and continued forward.

In a patch of grass at the edge of the Dark Forest, a small furry creature suddenly poked out from the gaps between the grass, with a large vertical eyeball in the center of its fur.

The large eyeball blinked, and the furry creature protruding from the grass began to turn around. As it spun, the eye surveyed its surroundings.

Meanwhile, deep in the grass below the large eyeball, a shadow was crouching.

It lay silent, its sharp claws and teeth emitting a faint gleam even in the darkness.

This low-tier Primordial Beast is called the Eye-tailed Lion.

The furry thing extending from the grass is its tail, and its tail has an eye on it. It’s crouching in the grass, using that eye on its tail to search for prey. Once it finds a target, it will slowly approach in the grass, and when within striking distance, it will lunge from the grass to bite and kill the prey.

But as the Eye-tailed Lion was crouched in the grass searching for prey, suddenly a flicker of fluorescence appeared before its eyes, glowing like fireflies in the outside world.

There are no fireflies in the Dark Forest, yet the Eye-tailed Lion paid little attention, as it was in the crucial moment of searching for prey, and that fluorescence was just a tiny speck that seemed of little threat.

However, in the next instant, that flickering glow abruptly flashed and directly plunged into its head.

In the next moment, the Eye-tailed Lion appeared petrified, motionless, even its large eye on the furry tail sticking out from the grass closed shut.

Immediately after, a shadow fell beside it like a phantom!

The shadow was precisely Duan Rong.

Duan Rong looked at the Eye-tailed Lion in front, a flash of blade light, and from the edge of the blade instantly emerged a half-inch blade aura.

Though the Eye-tailed Lion was still a low-tier Primordial Beast, its internal Primordial Qi was much more robust than Duan Rong, who hadn’t even reached the First Level of Primordial Qi Realm.

Without the Mental Realm Blade Aura, Duan Rong simply couldn’t penetrate the body of the Eye-tailed Lion.

In reality, Fan Hongjiao and Wu Shidao could easily handle beasts like the Eye-tailed Lion, but if it were Lu Geng and Wang Yue, even joining forces would still be quite troublesome.

In the dark, the cold light flashed, the blade carrying half an inch of blade aura accurately pierced through the heart of the Eye-tailed Lion, and Duan Rong withdrew the blade, yet the Frost Patterned Phosphor Crystal Saber in his hand remained untainted with blood.

The moment the blade aura pierced its heart, the Eye-tailed Lion shivered and fell to Duan Rong’s feet.

Only a thin blood line flowed from its wound.

Duan Rong didn’t linger at the site, packed the corpse of the Eye-tailed Lion into a cloth bag, slung it over his back, and traversed the dark forest.

The Divine Soul Illusion Technique and Divine Sense detection were Duan Rong’s confidence to venture alone into the Dark Forest.

Once these Primordial Beasts fell into the soul-entrancing Divine Soul Illusion Realm, they would be easy prey, and with Duan Rong’s technique of the Mental Realm Blade Aura, he could pierce beasts with Primordial Qi much denser than his own.

Hence, for him, entering the Dark Forest alone to hunt Primordial Beasts, as long as he was cautious, was not particularly challenging.

Of course, the Dark Forest housed countless strange species, remaining enigmatic and fraught with unseen dangers. Without Fan Hongjiao and the others by his side, Duan Rong dared not linger longer; having captured an Eye-tailed Lion, he prepared to leave immediately.

Under the coverage of Divine Sense detection, Duan Rong avoided many dangers and swiftly leaped towards the area near the descent point, in the field of Clear Light Grass.

Upon entering the field, he exhaled a long murky breath, wiped the fine sweat off his forehead.

In the region of Clear Light Grass, safety was considerably higher, yet Duan Rong’s Divine Sense continued to probe the surroundings, as Clear Light Grass could restrain Primordial Beasts, but it couldn’t restrain fellow sect members.

The Eye-tailed Lion was just a month’s worth of cultivation resources for Duan Rong, but typical inner disciples could see it as half a year’s worth. Moreover, Duan Rong was by himself, and his body technique indicated a modest realm. Hence, for Duan Rong, those from his sect were the real threat.

Duan Rong had just walked a stretch in the Clear Light Grass with the Eye-tailed Lion on his back when he suddenly frowned, expanding his form into a flitting ghostly speed, darting out of the area into a nearby patch of bushes.

Just as he hid, he saw shadows sliding down chains from the cliff edge at the end of the Clear Light Grass field.

Several people dropped to the grass field, briefly conferred, then darted into the Dark Forest in a certain direction.

Duan Rong’s Divine Sense detected that they had moved far, then he leaped from the bushes, quickly heading towards the cliff.

Those should be the inner disciples listed under the Internal History Department. Nevertheless, Duan Rong had just arrived at Yunfu Peak and did not know them.

Duan Rong came to the cliff edge, passing the chains that were still slightly swinging from the inner disciples who had just slid down.

Although they too descended from this drop point, the chains exclusive for these direct disciples were specially designated.

Duan Rong reached the chains he had slid down with, secured the cloth bag tightly at his back, and grasped a chain with both hands, climbing upwards, soon disappearing into the darkness.

The Eye-tailed Lion’s size was considerable, yet compared to the previous Two-legged Frenzied Python and Cyan-eyed Giant Lizard, it was much lesser.

Even so, when Duan Rong climbed out of the subterranean fissure, he was already too exhausted to catch his breath, almost like Wang Yue the last time.

“This thing… climbing it once is truly exhausting!?”

Duan Rong panted for quite a while before struggling to stand in the dark. He took out the flint, lit the torch, the wind from the subterranean fissure kept blowing, making the torch flicker loudly.

During the previous descent, Duan Rong had probed this subterranean fissure with Divine Sense, discovering that its length far exceeded the range of his Divine Sense detection.

Where he stood was merely a short segment within this subterranean fissure, extending both ways should yield a very expansive space. Those inner disciples listed under the Internal History Department evidently slid into the Dark Forest from other positions.

Duan Rong, carrying the cloth bag, exited the stone chamber, passed through the corridor, and outside the stone gate, arriving at the guardian elder sitting in dry meditation.

The elder did not even open his eyes, and after Duan Rong stepped out, he merely gave a slight bow before turning away.

Just then, the elder sitting cross-legged in the corner suddenly opened his eyes, noticing a furry piece drooping out from the cloth bag Duan Rong carried on his back.

The furry piece had an eye on it.

The elder’s heart skipped a beat. “Eye-tailed Lion?!”

This lad’s Dantian, which the elder had penetrated with Divine Sense before, had just entered Primordial Qi Realm only a few days ago.

He not only ventured alone into the Dark Forest but also hunted back an Eye-tailed Lion.

This lad is quite interesting!

A glint of interest flashed in the elder’s cold eyes, and the next moment, his Divine Sense penetrated Duan Rong’s Dantian once more.

At the instant a powerful Divine Sense pierced the Dantian, Duan Rong sensed it, yet he continued undisturbed, his pace without any anomaly.

The elder’s expression became intricate instantly, eyes wide in disbelief.

“How is this possible?! Could it be I was wrong a month ago? How could he almost break through to the First Level of Primordial Qi Realm in just a month?”

What speed is this? Back in my day, I couldn’t have achieved such speed.

No! Perhaps Chu Qiushan, Gu Daoling couldn’t achieve such speed either.

I must have been wrong last time. Maybe sitting in dry meditation for too long has muddled my time sense?

At this moment, the elder, usually indifferent and silent, fell into deep self-doubt alone in the stone chamber after Duan Rong left…
