I Can Devour Spirits

Zhu Peng had no choice but to get up and draw the curtains tightly, causing the light in the room to dim immediately.

Duan Rong put down the fur and suddenly said, ”Watch carefully!”

As he spoke, Duan Rong made a swishing sound, drawing out his Minghong Saber.

In the dim light, the blade’s glow was like water.

Both of their hearts skipped a beat, and their bodies tensed instantly, but they saw Duan Rong raise the saber and slowly bring the blade towards the tip of the needle held in the rubber stick in his other hand.

When it was about half an inch away, suddenly a clear arc flashed between the needle tip and the blade edge.

Duan Rong smiled slightly and said, ”Did you see that? That was the electric arc!”

”Electric arc?” Zhu Cheng and Zhu Peng exchanged puzzled looks.

Zhu Peng said, ”Wasn’t that just like the sparks that jump off my body when I take off clothes in the autumn?”

Duan Rong’s eyes lit up and said, ”Yes, that’s exactly it. That’s also an electric arc!”

Zhu Cheng’s eyes shifted slightly, and he asked, ”Lord Duan, this electric arc...what does it have to do with the Nine Heavens Thunder?”

”Indeed! Aren’t those sparks quite common?” Zhu Peng said.

Duan Rong pointed to the needle tip and said, ”I have to say, those sparks we just saw are actually the same as the Nine Heavens Thunder. Do you believe it?”

Both of them were stunned momentarily, then shook their heads.

Duan Rong chuckled silently. He thought it was quite a stretch to explain these scientific discoveries to these ancient individuals.

Duan Rong sighed and said, ”In any case, the craftsmen who built the cool room for Lord Zhu Shizhong are definitely suspicious. If we capture them and interrogate them under torture, they will certainly confess! Then you’ll know whether what I’m saying is true or false.”

Zhu Cheng immediately glanced at Zhu Peng and asked, ”Someone’s been watching those craftsmen, right?”

Zhu Peng replied, ”They’ve been under watch. Recently, they’ve been building a cool room at Adviser Ge’s mansion.”

When they first took over the case, they had already interrogated those craftsmen. At that time, they did not find any problems.

But now, that piece of broken wood clearly contained some kind of mechanism.

The possibility that such a small device could summon thunder was unbelievable to them. However, the fact that the craftsmen had set up such a mechanism on the cool room showed their ill intentions, and they must be thoroughly interrogated.

Thus, Zhu Peng went to the Secretariat to call in a team of Iron Cavalry, and Zhu Cheng also brought two teams of the Ministry of Justice’s Secretaries along with them. Duan Rong carried the burnt, charred piece of wood, and the three of them grandly headed to the Adviser’s residence.

Although the Adviser was a First Grade official, Zhu Cheng felt that they were not arresting anyone from his household, but the craftsmen, who were involved in the case; so bringing them back to the Ministry of Justice for questioning was within legal bounds.

By now, it was already dusk, and Zhu Cheng first sent someone to inquire about Adviser Ge Hengtai to confirm that he had returned from the Government Office before proceeding.

This way, it would facilitate negotiations; otherwise, running back and forth would easily lead to problems. They also couldn’t just storm into the Ge Mansion to arrest people, as that would be a direct slap in the face to Ge Hengtai.

This Ge Hengtai was of the bloodline of Elder Ge Rusong of the Elder Hall; otherwise, he couldn’t possibly have secured the position of Adviser and overseen all of Qingzhou’s inspections.

Ge Rusong was the Chairman of the Ministry of Communication within the sect and had quite some influence there. If not necessary, Zhu Cheng was reluctant to get on his bad side lightly.

The three of them arrived at the gate of the Ge Mansion.

Zhu Cheng had his troops wait outside.

The reason for bringing this team along was to have them escort the craftsmen to be detained in the Ministry of Justice’s dungeon, ensuring security along the way.

Zhu Cheng submitted a calling card to the Gatekeeper, explaining the reason for their visit.

The Gatekeeper glanced at it and then at the intimidatingly large group of Iron Cavalry outside the gate, his face turning a bit grim. He took the calling card and hurried inside the mansion.

After a short while, the Gatekeeper returned and said that the master invited the gentlemen inside.

Zhu Cheng, Zhu Peng, Duan Rong, and the two Secretaries from the Ministry of Justice all entered the Ge Mansion together.

The Gatekeeper led them all the way to a flower hall.

Upon entering the hall, they saw a burly middle-aged man sitting there in casual attire.

Duan Rong glanced at the man, noting his thick eyebrows, high cheekbones, and the strong, resolute lines of his chin.

Zhu Cheng stepped into the flower hall, clasped his fists together, and said with a smile, ”Lord Ge, we apologize for disturbing you at dusk and interrupting your rest. We hope you understand!”

Ge Hengtai remained seated, only slightly clasping his fists in reply, ”As long as it’s official business, it doesn’t matter whether it’s a disturbance or not.”

As Ge Hengtai spoke, he cast a glance at the two Secretaries behind Zhu Cheng. Since the Secretaries were present, it clearly pertained to official business.

Zhu Cheng smiled, ”It’s about a case. If it weren’t a pressing matter, I wouldn’t dare to disturb you.”

Ge Hengtai remained silent; Zhu Cheng awkwardly laughed before continuing, ”Here’s the situation. The craftsmen who built the cool room for Lord Zhu Shizhong are currently in your residence building your cool room. They are involved in the case, and I want to take them back to the Ministry of Justice for investigation. I would appreciate your cooperation.”

Ge Hengtai coughed and said, ”If I remember correctly, Lord Zhu questioned them at the Ministry of Justice at the beginning of the case, didn’t he? Now you want to question them again; surely you have a reason, don’t you?”

Zhu Cheng replied, ”Yes. It’s just that during recent investigations, some new issues have surfaced, and we need to question these craftsmen again.”

”What issues?” Ge Hengtai asked with a cold face.

At this point, Duan Rong and the others had already sensed that Ge Hengtai was evidently reluctant to release the people easily. Perhaps he didn’t want to delay his own cool room’s construction, or maybe he had other thoughts.
