Chapter 1233: Additional Task

“Thank you, Elder Taishuo.”

Yi Tianyun accepted the member of the Divine Spirit Race without hesitation, storing her in his Living Ring. Elder Taishuo didn’t find this odd at all; after all, carrying them around openly would be impractical.

“I have high hopes for you. Emerging victorious among many strong contenders already shows your remarkable abilities,” Elder Taishuo said with a smile. “For now, focus on improving yourself. I’ll assign you a task soon, and you must complete it flawlessly. If you succeed, you will get to meet the Domain Lord.”

“A task?” Yi Tianyun asked, puzzled.

“Yes, but it’s not an easy one. For now, just focus on your cultivation.” Elder Taishuo patted his shoulder but didn’t reveal any details about the task.

Yi Tianyun hoped it wouldn’t be a mission to exterminate the Moonshade forces, who were currently nibbling away at the Evil Spirit Race’s influence in the mortal realm. If he were sent to eliminate them, he would either have to abandon this Evil Spirit Puppet body, leading to the destruction of the Evil Spirit Race’s influence in the mortal realm, or temporarily halt the purging of the Evil Spirit Race’s forces there. The benefit would be meeting the Domain Lord and climbing higher in rank.

However, he preferred thoroughly eradicating the Evil Spirit Race’s influence in the mortal realm. Though it might be a slower process, he was determined to eliminate their presence completely.

“I understand, Elder,” Yi Tianyun replied, glancing around the area. There were no guards, but the cages were quite sturdy. Breaking them would take some effort.

One option was to use brute force, and the other was to disable the seals. Either way, it would take some time and effort. Alerting the elders here would be problematic.

He carefully examined the cages, using his Eye of Insight to analyze any weaknesses and determine the fastest way to break the seals and rescue the captives.

(TN: Appraisal Eye will become Eye of Insight from now)

“What’s this? Can’t bear to leave them? Want to choose another?” Elder Taishuo chuckled upon seeing Yi Tianyun’s intense gaze at the captives. “I remember feeling the same way, absorbing their essence felt so wonderful. It seems you’ve felt that surge of energy from the Holy Maiden too.”

“I must admit, the Divine Spirit Race makes perfect food for us. However, you can only take one this time. Perform well on your next mission, and you can have another.”

Elder Taishuo assumed Yi Tianyun was reluctant to leave and wanted another captive. Little did he know, Yi Tianyun was merely trying to figure out how to break the cages.

“Well, Elder Taishuo, you saw right through me. I did want to take another, but I understand it’s not allowed. I’d like to take a closer look if that’s okay,” Yi Tianyun replied sheepishly.

“Of course, no problem at all. Look as much as you want. It might give you some motivation.” Elder Taishuo smiled and gestured for him to go ahead, then excused himself, claiming he had other matters to attend to.

Yi Tianyun was pleasantly surprised by Elder Taishuo’s generosity. This increased his chances of success significantly.

As Elder Taishuo left, Yi Tianyun examined each cage. As he approached, the captives cursed at him.

“What are you looking at? Kill us if you dare!”

“Yeah, you disgusting creatures, kill us! If we escape, you’re dead!”

They tried to provoke Yi Tianyun into killing them. Imprisoned and unable to commit suicide, they saw external help as their only hope for a quick death. Enduring endless torture was far worse.

Yi Tianyun didn’t respond. He methodically inspected each cage and memorized its structure. After he finished, he nodded, turned, and left without a word, despite the curses following him.

He wanted to reassure them, but he dared not, fearing detection. Though Elder Taishuo was gone, he sensed some surveillance and couldn’t afford to be careless.

Once outside Darkheart City, the surveillance finally lifted.

“Ding successfully accepted side quest ‘Rescue the Divine Spirit Race.’ Completion rewards: 30 compressed Crazy Points, 20 compressed proficiency points, and 100 Divine Spirit Race favorability. (Note: This task will influence future mainline changes, complete at your discretion.)”

“A side quest, perfect timing.”

He found a hidden spot and released the captured Divine Spirit Race member. She immediately began cursing, “Disgusting, trash, pervert, freak…”

Her tirade didn’t stop, aimed at provoking anger. Like the others, she sought death over continued suffering.

Yi Tianyun remained silent, drawing her into the Evil Spirit Puppet’s internal space.

“Disgusting, trash… You, you all…”

She stopped mid-rant, stunned to see Ji Shuilian and others safe and sound.

“Little Zhen!”

They rushed over to free her from her restraints and explain the situation. Once she understood, she looked at Yi Tianyun in shock and embarrassment. “I’m sorry for earlier. I thought you were one of the Evil Spirit Race…”

“Don’t worry about it. Now let’s plan how to rescue Elder Ji Yue and the others!” Yi Tianyun said, eager to act swiftly. He didn’t want to delay; the sooner they acted, the better. However, he knew timing was crucial. Constant surveillance would complicate matters.

He sensed that the area would always be watched, making infiltration challenging.
