Chapter 1285: Chapter 982: A Name

Same dark night.

In the quiet room, the elderly man with a white beard stared out at Tanbo’s night, his expression filled with Pieta. When he saw the endless lights and the bustling construction sites, he couldn’t help but let out a silent sigh.

For the suffering of the people.

Who knows, behind this facade of prosperity, how many have shed their blood and tears?

This brutal governance exploits the people’s sweat to exchange for prosperity, which indeed is nauseating.

Yet, when a crisp sound came from behind the door, that expression of world-weary Pieta instantly vanished, replaced by urgency as he approached, ”How is it? Any news from the other side?”

”The money has been transferred.”

The person who knocked said, ”We’ll provide support when necessary, please proceed without hesitation.”

”Good, very good!”

The elderly man looked down at the numbers on his phone, and his smile turned gratified, ”Very good, with such support, the Doomsday for this Sinful City is coming!”

Clearly aged, yet his demeanor remained solemn and resolute like an unyielding warrior.

”Our Wanderers’ Freedom Alliance will not stand by idly.”

He assured, ”Please tell them... Tanbo can definitely sweep away the gloom and welcome a bright Future! Even in deep darkness, freedom’s light will eventually shine upon this Seat!”

.

A few days later, Tanbo, in the old district.

The former center of Tanbo has now been replaced by newly constructed neighborhoods, and what’s left is this area of yet-to-be-demolished abandoned buildings.

A place long abandoned by the times, rarely seen by humans, only stray cats and dogs linger, gazing remotely at the distant, endlessly roaring construction sites.

In a desolate old house, under the lit lights, the elderly man stood on the stage, passionately delivering a speech to the audience filled with rage.

”Friends, as you toil day and night, sweating blood, your earnings barely enough to survive... while the real fruits are squandered by those bloodless and ruthless elites, supporting their decadent, lavish lifestyles!

Relying on their monopoly over Potion, the Tanbo Group is turning us into their slaves! Through the high-pressure rule of Yakutza, Huai Zhisu People force us to work for them, forcing us to deplete our lives to satisfy his insatiable greed!

With our sweat, he builds opulent palaces, maintains countless mistresses, repeatedly extending his sinister hands toward innocent children... my daughter, my daughter was...”

At this point, the elderly man was choked up, tears in his eyes, and the audience was even more indignant, eyes ablaze with fury.

”Everyone unite, join the Alliance of Wanderers, overthrow the tyranny of Huaizhi’s oppressive rule!”

In a desperate cry, the elderly man raised his hands, calling out to the audience, ”Refuse dictatorship! Reject exploitation!”

Under the elderly man’s lead, everyone fervently shouted, ”We want an eight-hour workday, regular breaks, and welfare! We want control over our homes!”

”Release the Potion’s formula and supply, return my human rights!”

”We want freedom!!!”

”Freedom!!”

The fervent screams echoed throughout the night. Addicts and drawn-in layabouts indulged in the vision of a Future filled with freedom and hope.

On the rooftop, a massive black Flying Bird, like an eagle, tilted its head, preening the disordered feathers on its wings, then took to the sky again.

Leaving only the faint calls reverberating in the air.

Fools.

.

.

”Hey, have you noticed there are more fools lately?”

During the weekend gathering, Ueno chewed on edamame, complaining impatiently, ”A bunch of useless people causing trouble at the construction site every day, the streets have been getting increasingly chaotic as well.”

This remark promptly triggered complaints from almost everyone.

Only Takuma, sipping sake, observed with a sideways glance.

After all, he’s long retired, no matter how troublesome it gets, it’s not affecting his mindset.

On the contrary, he’s rather concerned about something else.

”Hey, won’t it be some young ones from before causing trouble without knowing the rules?”

Takuma cautiously reminded, ”Don’t stir up any trouble, the boss strictly ordered no returning to old ways.”

”Tch, return to what crap.”

Ueno grew increasingly upset, almost crushing the beer mug, ”Don’t you know today’s Tanbo? Everyone’s got jobs and kids, or they’re in relationships... there’s so much work to do, they’re eager to make money but can’t finish it, needing someone to drive them home to sleep every day. Who’s got time for wandering around, messing things up?

It’s all a bunch of outsider Hybrids, from those border folks, and the old crowd of useless trash... most of them live off welfare every day, or simply loafing around for meals.

After drinking, they fight everywhere and cause havoc. Just a few days ago, there were several robberies, and a person was killed, causing quite a stir. Hey, Yamashita, why aren’t you speaking? Is it calm on your side?”

Among the people here, likely the only one not having gone straight is the one still working under the Wood Cottage, Yamashita. He arrived the latest today, cement dust on his suit’s sleeve and pants edge, couldn’t have been doing volunteer work at the construction site.

His cold, gloomy demeanor hasn’t changed since.

Hearing Ueno’s question, he merely replied indifferently, ”Few dare to pick a fight at our place, but the number of dealers selling illegal drugs is increasing... and those reselling Potion.”
