Chapter 1140: Chapter 872: Storm Season

[w(ﾟДﾟ)w Just now, the person from Green Day said something that dampened Lin-kun’s spirits.]

[You’ve worked hard, please rest well, I’ll take care of the following matters.]

[Though it’s not nice to say, can we eliminate the bad things? (;′⌒`)]

[Please show mercy, I’ll handle it.]

[Then I’ll entrust it to Original Sauce (づ￣3￣)づ╭❤～]

Ten minutes later, Yuan Yuan put down the phone, massaging her aching forehead.

She couldn’t help but sigh.

The old assistant from the Ivory Tower handed over a cup of tea, smiling: ”Is there another problem? It’s rare to see you so worried.”

”Lawrence went to find Little Nineteen.”

”For the new Beastified Characteristic Beings?”

”What else could it be?”

Yuan Yuan shook her head: ”It’s probably also at Green Day’s behest... seeing the opportunity with the teacher absent, they want to take advantage. Yet for the time being, Tanbo wants to expand influence among Beastified Characteristic Beings at the border, which also requires leveraging Green Day’s power, so division isn’t feasible.”

As a newly emerging force, no matter how bright the future is, for now, it’s still in development and preparation mode, Tanbo’s approach can’t be all tough.

Sometimes, as long as it doesn’t touch the bottom line and principles, temporary compromise is necessary.

”It’s often like this, compared to the decisiveness of accomplishing everything in one move, the resilience of perseverance is more valuable and arduous.”

The old assistant Friman adjusted his glasses and softly remarked.

In recent days, as an assistant from the Ivory Tower and one of the main administrators of the Current Circumstances Climate Campus, he has witnessed the rapid changes here firsthand.

Even after parting from Huai Shi, his students have faithfully carried out the plans and goals he’d left behind, without any deviation or wavering.

Putting extraordinary talent aside, this firm determination is what’s more impressive.

”Mr. Lin is too harsh on himself.” The old assistant smiled and reassured, ”I believe that achieving this level, Mr. Huai Shi would be pleased with your growth.”

”Perhaps, but he might not necessarily be happy.”

Yuan Yuan shook her head and sighed.

Honestly, even as a trusted figure, Yuan Yuan often felt overwhelmed by the myriad of complex tasks, noticing the teacher’s remarkable ability to delegate effortlessly.

Casually throwing such significant matters to others.

And still to two students who haven’t graduated.

This isn’t like asking them to grade papers or analyze classical music, but major power that could influence Tanbo’s future.

Even with the backing of the Ivory Tower, it’s still too careless.

Not worrying about the Triad infiltrating the Alliance, nor worrying about the Yuan Family’s power controlling their lifeline. Letting them handle themselves more than they do.

Because of this, Yuan Yuan, when stepping in to make decisions and judgments, felt even more cautious and fearful, while Lin Nineteen walked on thin ice, always saying ”it’s all the teacher’s task,” nearly turning into a fully automated tool.

It’s like a newbie player suddenly being handed a top-tier fully developed account to play and learn as they please, the pressure is immense.

Though the progress and growth are indeed delightful.

But even so, they still have limits. Facing this world, even a giant like the Astronomical Society has places beyond its reach, let alone the mere Tanbo?

Some things, even Huai Shi can’t resolve.

Just like those Beastified Characteristic Beings filled with hatred...

They’ve long fallen into their own Hell.

No cure exists.

Even if they stay, they can only become hidden dangers.

”No need to feel bad.”

Friman looked at the numbers on the report and sighed helplessly: ”This is an inevitable choice, I believe Mr. Huai Shi can understand.”

”The teacher will surely understand, and he’ll surely be angry.”

Yuan Yuan raised her eyes, speaking calmly: ”Not because the Wood Cottage gave up on those people, but because he took on this responsibility in their place.”

She could say this with complete certainty.

Even knowing all of this, Huai Shi would definitely not hold any blame or dissatisfaction with the Wood Cottage, yet he also wouldn’t approve of their choice.

Because even if a sacrifice is necessary, it shouldn’t be the Wood Cottage’s decision, nor should it be a blemish on him.

He shouldn’t walk the same path as the Lin family.

Since he took on this student from day one, Huai Shi never had such plans.

Even if the Lin Family taking the fall is justifiable, even the Lin family members themselves think so.

Even if after the fact, the Astronomical Society wants to hold Tanbo accountable, Huai Shi would surely fabricate an entrustment with his signature proving it was all his directive.

”Isn’t this what being a teacher and student is about?”

The old assistant chuckled softly, ”Compared to that, offspring are extensions of bloodline, while students are an ideal future. He hopes you’ll do better, be better than himself...

He is others’ future, and in the future, you will also be his future.

This is what legacy is all about.”

”It’s really heavy.” Yuan Yuan rubbed her brow, sighing in distress.

”Don’t worry, there’s an even heavier reality waiting for you.”

Friman put down the pen, tapped the table, and the reports on the table seemed to come alive, dancing and landing on Yuan Yuan’s desk.

Neatly, it became a stack.

He said, ”You also need to make a decision, madam.”

Now, with Huai Shi gone, affairs within the Tanbo Campus are jointly decided by the two students appointed by him as proxies.

This is not due to insufficient support from the Ivory Tower, but out of respect for the Current Circumstances Campus, they will not overstep their authority. Only when the two disagree will it follow the process to be submitted to the administration office, and when the administration office can’t decide, it will be discussed by Vice Principal Isaac and Luo Su.

Like now.

The preliminary census of the Tanbo District population has been completed, partially covering those Beastified Characteristic Beings who continue to gather from various locations within the Current Circumstances and borders to Tanbo.

Thus, the primary issue to tackle is placement.

Given Tanbo’s scale, no matter how many come, it can handle them.

After obtaining citizenship rights, as long as one possesses a talent, one can find a foothold in Tanbo, even if lacking skills, those capable of labor can earn a living.

Not to mention, the abundant educational resources of the Ivory Tower that can provide training.

In such a situation, the most difficult are not those homeless wanderers, nor those filled with hatred.

But... the old, weak, sick, and disabled!

Due to the torment of illness, the average lifespan of Beastified Characteristic Beings generally does not exceed fifty years, with those over forty considered elderly.

Moreover, long-term malnutrition, erosion from Abyssal sedimentation, limitations of living environment, and lack of medical care lead to premature aging and severe degeneration for most.

”More seriously, those Beastified Characteristic Beings recently transported...”

Friman adjusted his glasses, hesitating to speak.

The majority of them have been used as cheap labor and slaves, working year-round in dark mines and workshops, even subjected to experiments with banned drugs—let alone the tragic experiences of being exploited for their appearance and organs.

Many among them, during medical examinations, made one wonder how they managed to survive.

Proper placement for these people is the urgent task.

Should they be saved? Should they be treated? How much subsidy is needed? Treatment may not ensure recovery, recovery does not guarantee they can work, and even if they can work, they cannot perform physical labor—but does Tanbo have so many job opportunities?

From the coldest utilitarian perspective, those filled with hatred are not Tanbo’s burden, but these weak individuals are.

Moreover, the losses and damage they cause may be greater than those people.

If not resolved appropriately, the nascent Tanbo would undoubtedly be cast in shadows and become an unbearable financial burden.

”In any case, let’s hurry the treatment, after all, time is precious.”

Yuan Yuan sighed, distressed, ”Don’t we have agreements with the Existence Institute’s medical facilities? Providing bio-data and information on Beastified Characteristic Beings, and with experimental new drug cost reductions, it might not be very expensive.”

”What about future arrangements?”

Friman asked, ”Is Tanbo to be responsible for their lives henceforth?”

”Modern society has one advantage: eating well is not easy, but getting enough to eat is simple, just a few more mouths to feed. If they can’t do physical labor, doing some easy social work, even making paper boxes is better than being idle...”

Yuan Yuan considered and said seriously, ”Let’s do our best.”

”This is not something that determination and dedication can solve quickly.”

Friman reminded, ”For Tanbo, this is a long-term pressure, potentially lasting even longer. Subsequent issues will increase. Should we discuss this with Mr. Lin?”

”He won’t oppose.”

Yuan Yuan smiled, ”Otherwise, when the teacher returns, it wouldn’t just be anger, but a beating.”

In this, she was equally confident.

”From a management perspective, this lacks any cost-effectiveness, Tanbo bears no responsibility for them, Miss Yuan Yuan,”

Friman said, ”We owe nothing, and have done our utmost. Even if we abandon them, no one could reproach us. They were just unlucky, missing a good time.”

”But if you want to do something, how can you only consider profits and losses? Some things need to be done, Mr. Friman, regardless of good or bad.”

This is unlike doing business.

And also unrelated to so-called fortune.

”It’s not their luck,” she said. ”It’s Tanbo’s duty.”

Thus, Yuan Yuan calmly picked up the pen and signed her name on the last document, affixing Tanbo’s seal.

Then, she reached for the next file.

The work continues.

Some burdens can be cast aside, but some must remain.

Real or false, good or bad, lies or hope.

Time will prove everything.

This vast mandate signifies proof of future existence.

Meanwhile, atop Helios, Huai Shi raised his eyes.

In front of him, within the Eternal Frozen Heart, sprang a solitary and pure silhouette.

Treading on the verdant steel earth, the nimble White Deer promenaded amidst the iris flower clusters, its high antlers spreading like tree crowns, growing numerous blossoms.

Clear eyes quietly gazed at everything before it.
