Chapter 1027: Chapter 795: Fewer Friends, Smoother Roads

At midnight, Ueno Shiro, the department head of Huaizhi Group, was forcibly arrested and searched by the Kyoto Police Department due to involvement in a murder case.

At two o’clock, Lin Nineteen rushed over with a lawyer upon receiving the news.

Seated in the police department’s office, he glanced down at the cheap coffee before raising his eyes to look at the section chief in front of him:

”Our Huaizhi Construction is a mature and legal construction company under the Huaizhi Group. As a department manager, Mr. Ueno Shiro’s character is widely praised and has earned unanimous acclaim from colleagues.

For so many years, he has been diligent, hardworking, honest, sincere, gentle, and kind—qualities recognized by everyone. Now he is subjected to such injustice, our company will absolutely not turn a blind eye!

To put it bluntly, it’s because you guys at the police department made a mistake that this situation has arisen!”

”I don’t know if there’s a mistake, but I’ve heard quite a bit about Ueno Shiro.”

The section chief calmly drank his coffee: ”A shark man, very fierce, violent, imprisoned twice for engaging in violent activities, countless criminal cases he’s involved in... Previously a top figure in the Fujimoto Group, now the confidant of your Huaizhi’s group leader—I’m fully aware, Lin-kun, no need for further introduction.”

”I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Lin Nineteen glanced behind: ”This is our company’s Lawyer Okumuki. We demand immediate access to meet Ueno Shiro.”

”Apologies, Ueno Shiro is currently undergoing examination,” the section chief replied. ”Our examination department extracted blood traces from his hands; he is highly suspicious.”

Lawyer Okumuki adjusted his glasses: ”As a construction company, injuries are inevitable. Manager Ueno frequently leads workers on the front lines; occasional hand injuries are not a big deal and prove nothing.”

”The blood traces contained DNA from two victims.”

”During the transportation of materials, sometimes corpses of cats and dogs appear on the roadside, and they must be moved aside, don’t they?”

Okumuki checked his wristwatch: ”You have no right to stop me from seeing my client. I suspect you might be engaging in torture and persecution of him for your own performance goals, framing him with unspeakable purposes.”

”Trying to scare me? Okumuki, no need to give me a label, I’ve seen plenty of scum lawyers who defend gangs for money.” The section chief sneered, picked up his phone, said a few words, and soon, knocking sounded from outside the door.

Ueno was escorted in with handcuffs and seated on a chair.

”Wanted to meet, didn’t you? Here he is, meet him for as long as you want, say whatever you wish.” The section chief set down his cup, ”Today, the police department’s coffee is unlimited.”

”No matter how much swill you offer, it still isn’t something you can stomach, officer.”

Lin Nineteen said indifferently: ”You label us as scum, yet what you do hardly ranks any better.”

”That’s the crux of the problem.”

The section chief shrugged, straightened up from his chair, leaned forward with a cold smile: ”Even if we’re scum, we’re legal scum. Don’t compare me with you sewer rats—Police Departments are precisely for overseeing trash like you, and our coffee is meant to feed your kind of scum.

Rats only eat swill, so don’t expect to eat anything else.”

”Is that so?”

Lin Nineteen’s expression remained blank: ”You seem quite fearless, or is someone backing you? No matter, you might be influential, but you surely don’t know who I am.”

He shrugged slightly, regretfully said: ”Otherwise, you wouldn’t dare speak to me like this.”

.

At ten in the morning, the latest edition of Twilight News suddenly exploded with the shocking scandal of the Kyoto Police Department’s Section Chief of Task Three accepting bribes and being involved in multiple murder cases.

With the expansion of the backstage manipulator, the news began to spread like wildfire.

And by that afternoon, Huai Shi finally received a guest without an appointment in his office.

An old man with white hair, draped in an antique-style Yingzhou robe from contemporary times, sat on his sofa, a ring adorned with the Dainei Hishi emblem on his index finger, indicating his identity.

A member of the Hua Clan from Deer’s Sing Hall.

Yet the business card read the title of a Police Security Section with the Kyoto Police Department.

In the MPD, the Security Section is responsible for guarding the Imperial Palace, essentially a core department of the Duke.

——Dudorijho Liangshengjian.

”Is it only possible to have black tea?”

Huai Shi sat opposite him, gestured the secretary to brew tea, and after pleasantries, didn’t rush to speak, casually sat, awaiting the elderly man’s words.

Soon, tea was served.

”It’s good tea.” Dudorijho Liangshengjian remarked.

”Indeed, suited for the elder, drinking more does not cause insomnia,” Huai Shi told the secretary, ”Later, when leaving, give Mr. Dudorijho a few pounds to take back.”

”The tea isn’t necessary, as I’ve aged, drinking plain water is better for the health.”

Dudorijho raised his eyes to look over, suddenly said: ”This time you guys went too far, Huai Shi-kun. It makes things difficult for us seniors.”

”Sorry, I don’t quite understand what you’re talking about.”

Huai Shi’s expression remained unchanged.

Behind Dudorijho, his aide opened the briefcase, and pushed the investigation reports and photos from the crime scene to Huai Shi.

”Ozaki Mitsuharu and Yevgeny both died in front of their former general’s residence... nailed to the door, bled to death.” Dudorijho asked: ”Do you have any leads?”

”I’m not sure; I’ve never met these two individuals,” Huai Shi regretfully shrugged, ”You should know my style—I’m not fond of leaving people with complete corpses.

However, since these two are dead, I think they probably had their reasons to die, didn’t they? To be honest, hearing about it makes me eat two extra bowls of rice tonight, maybe even add a dish.”

”Don’t talk about irrelevant matters, Huai Shi-kun, everyone knows who did this.” Dudorijho sighed, ”You’ve disrupted the balance; now the underground world of Kyoto is chaotic enough.”

”To be honest, I thought the high and mighty Deer’s Sing Hall wouldn’t care about the life and death of rats.” Huai Shi replied calmly, ”Isn’t punishing evil and promoting good the duty of Kyoto citizens? Deer’s Sing Hall should really give such kind-hearted people a banner.”

”A banner? You can have as many of those as you want.”

Dudorijho suddenly laughed, ”I’m not here to blame anyone today, Mr. Huai, we don’t want to become too hostile with our neighbors. Annual Entrepreneur? Honorary Senator? These can all be considered. With your merits, even the Former Emperor can award you a medal.

As long as you’re willing, holding a position in Deer’s Sing Hall wouldn’t be a problem... You’ve done it before during the Newcomer Tournament, haven’t you?”

”Sorry, times have changed, I’m not interested.”

Huai Shi rested his chin in his hand and replied lazily, ”I think staying at the Ivory Tower is quite good—look, at least I’m overseeing such a large area, it’s hard to manage.”

”There are quite a few people to support, right?”

Dudorijho said, ”In my opinion, the Alliance doesn’t really need to give up its current advantage, does it? We don’t mind the Alliance expanding its territory; a stable underground world is something we’re happy to see.”

He paused for a moment and said meaningfully, ”We could even support the construction in Tanbo District; after all, we share the land of Yingzhou, we should help each other.”

”It’s always about persuading prostitutes to reform, where is the logic in persuading people to commit misdeeds, Mr. Dudorijho?” After a long silence, Huai Shi sighed and looked up, ”Isn’t hitchhiking supposed to offer a free ride?”

Dudorijho smiled, ”We are just seeking cooperation while being in Yingzhou.”

Huai Shi asked expressionlessly, ”What if I don’t need cooperation?”

”...”

After a brief silence, Dudorijho sighed, ”Being too domineering will leave you friendless, Huai Shi-kun.”

”It’s alright,” Huai Shi said, ”I never had many friends.”

Dudorijho thought for a moment and told him seriously, ”Without friends, it’s hard to get anywhere.”

Huai Shi laughed.

In the silence, he slowly extended his hand and opened the blinds beside him, inviting the glaring sunlight in and showcasing the bustling scene of the Tanbo Inner Circle.

”Do you see the road outside, Mr. Dudorijho?” Huai Shi asked suspiciously, ”It’s so flat and wide, as long as you’re not lost, how could it be hard to walk?”

His smile became increasingly gentle and indescribably bright.

But his eyes turned pitch black, uncontrollably harboring the evil thoughts surging within his Soul, tinged with threads of blood-red.

The road leads to the heavens, not going to Rome, anywhere else is fine.

Do whatever you want, just don’t stand in my way.

Don’t even think...

In the silence, Dudorijho’s eye twitched, and soon, he sighed helplessly.

”...Then there is nothing left for us to discuss.” The old man slowly stood up and patted the dust off his knees, ”Wish you well on your path, Mr. Huai.”

”Mm, and I wish you good health, old man.”

Huai Shi smiled as he got up to see him off, ”And I hope everyone we care for remains safe and sound.”

Dudorijho’s footsteps paused for a moment, and his clouded eyes finally lifted to look at Huai Shi; the two pairs of eyes met, and after a long time, they nodded in silence.

”I believe they definitely will.”

He closed the door behind him and walked away.

In the silence, the cooled tea water refracted a dark red glow in the afternoon sunlight.

Huai Shi leaned against the sofa, a heavy pen silently twirling between his fingertips, his expression indifferent.

”Teacher, Mr. Ueno has been granted bail.”

Soon, the phone from the Wood Cottage came, ”But he cannot leave the country, nor can he leave the Current Circumstances, he must be ready to cooperate with their investigation at any time.”

”Okay, I understand, thank you for your hard work.”

”And, Teacher...” The Wood Cottage hesitated for a moment, ”My Uncle Liu might not have good intentions.”

”Triad has inquired more than once, I’m aware of this.” Huai Shi responded, ”Don’t worry, if I didn’t trust you, I wouldn’t put you in that position.”

After hanging up the phone, Huai Shi returned to his desk, lowered his head, and overlooked the notebook in front of him.

After a long time, he raised his hand and crossed out several items.

Indeed, cooperation and mutual benefit are correct.

But why rely on this?

At this point, still carrying their arrogance to the door, expecting the Tanbo Inner Circle to act like a rat for them, eating the slop they grant?

Dream on!

Over the long years, leaders of the Alliance have invested so much effort, laying the foundation for this day, paving the way; we can’t just turn back to the old path because someone stands in front.

Want cooperation?

Of course, it can be done—Tanbo Inner Circle wants to grow and can’t have everything to itself; we must ensure everyone makes money for business to last.

But with so many people to cooperate with, why should I choose your Deer’s Sing Hall?

Huai Shi sneered.

Do you really think you have me pinned down?
