Chapter 998: Chapter 779: Future

The sound of shattering came from the sky.

Like the ceiling of ages past wailing, dust falling silently.

Toshio walked dazedly in the thick smoke and haze, stumbling, it seemed a voice was calling from afar, someone was shouting. He opened his mouth to respond, but no sound came out, as if he had swallowed burning charcoal, feeling the fire ignite in his throat as he opened his mouth.

He tried to run swiftly, but no longer could find the trace of the shouter.

Just half-buried corpses in the ruins.

Aunt Nakayama, Uncle Bando, Uncle Hideta, Yuda, Ayano, Yoshiko and Sota... everyone was dead.

Perhaps even he was dead, he had already arrived in the world after death.

That’s why it felt so lonely, so sad.

Yet, he just wanted to find someone to talk to, even if just one person alive, even if just one person to tell him not to be afraid, he could continue to breathe, his heart would have a reason to keep beating.

Just like that, numbly passing by one shattered corpse after another, he staggered forward, stumbling and falling, silently crying, with no one to answer.

Until in the ruins, a hand, painfully twitched.

Toshio froze in place, almost thinking he was hallucinating, but that hand was clearly twitching painfully, like struggling in a nightmare.

Indescribable was the moment of ecstasy.

Someone was still alive!

Besides himself, someone was still alive in this Hell!

”Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, I’m coming to rescue you!”

Toshio crawled over, shouting hoarsely, imagining everything he hoped others would say to him, wanting to comfort him not to be afraid.

The child tried his best to dig through the dirt in front of him, pushing the fallen stone slab aside, gasping, seeing the face covered with dust, staying stunned in place.

”It’s you...”

Toshio recognized that face.

Huai Zhisu People.

The murderer who killed his cousin, the demon that brought all misfortune to him, the wicked Extreme Path.

He still lived.

But why?

Even though everyone was dead, even Aunt Nakayama was...

Toshio stiffly lowered his head, unable to understand, incapable of grasping, just... uncontrollable anger.

When he came to himself again, his hand already gripped a broken steel bar.

The innocent expression gradually twisted.

”It’s all your fault, all your fault... it’s all because of you... everyone is plainly dead... if cousin hadn’t died, Aunt, even my aunt...”

Could this be the arrangement of heaven?

Toshio’s hands trembled, wanting to press the sharp broken end against the man’s throat, ”I will... kill you...”

However, tears couldn’t stop falling, one by one, landing on the back of his hand.

”I, I...”

He choked.

I want revenge for cousin.

Such words couldn’t come out no matter what.

This wasn’t his fault, cousin was the one who deserved death, this situation wasn’t his fault, he did nothing. Aunt was just unlucky...

He just wanted to hate, just sought someone to hate.

Then he could live, live feeling slightly... at ease.

But he didn’t have that kind of courage.

The trembling hand could no longer hold the weapon, he knelt on the ground, covering his face, sobbing silently, barely able to breathe.

”I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” The child choked, humbly pleading: ”Please don’t die, I beg you... for anyone, please save him...”

”Are you calling for my help, Little Brag?”

A hoarse voice sounded, a bloodstained hand lifted, pressing on his hair.

”Don’t be afraid.”

The dying man opened his eyes, softly told him: ”I will protect you.”

Toshio stared blankly at him, feeling like he was seeing a fool.

Couldn’t comprehend what he was thinking.

Perhaps he was already mad?

It didn’t matter anymore.

He numbly shook his head.

This world had long been abnormal, mad or not, it didn’t matter, anyway, everyone would eventually die...

In the silence, Huai Shi tried to support his body, but the broken left arm couldn’t accomplish such work, couldn’t even lift, instead inciting a choking and suffocation from the lungs.

That was the broken ribs piercing into the lungs.

He leaned against the ruins, struggled to raise his head, gazing at the dim sky dome of Hell, bathed in the rain of dust.

He could see countless deaths slowly rising, dispersing, vanishing.

The Soloist silently mourned.

Huai Shi lowered his eyes.

Couldn’t save you all, sorry.

But they still had a chance...

All of this could still be saved.

”Child, have you ever taken a music class?”

He murmured, like a dream-talk, ”In school, everyone would gather together, following the teacher, happily hopping, surrounding the piano...

Sometimes it’s noisy, but sometimes everyone behaves. Sitting together on chairs, Listening to the teacher play the piano, singing loudly. When singing, everyone smiles happily.

That’s when I’m happiest...

Those melodies are so beautiful, as if they have souls, when in pain just listen, and receive comfort. They are my friends, I hope someday, to introduce them to you.”

”So don’t be afraid.”

Huai Shi gently said: ”You won’t die here, you still have your own Future.”

You will worry about studies, strive for exams. Listen in class, answer questions, or quietly cheat. In the sleepy afternoon, lie on the desk, watching the noise on the playground outside. Imagine when flowers bloom, holding hands with some girl...
