Apocalypse Forecast

When the bewildered Huai Shi was quickly brought in front of Professor Matsumoto, he still hadn’t reacted to what was happening.

Why me?

Why is it always me?

He genuinely doesn’t understand, looking at the frail old man behind the glass, ”Professor Matsumoto, we haven’t met before, right? Isn’t there something you can discuss with Mr. Isaac?”

”To be honest, I don’t trust Mr. Isaac because he’s different from the principal.”

With his hair white as snow, Matsumoto Genichiro said: ”I have known Mr. Isaac for many years and have never doubted his character. I also genuinely believe he would do anything to protect the Ivory Tower. But precisely because of this, I cannot trust him with matters not related to the Ivory Tower.”

”Then, what about me? I can be trusted?”

Behind him, under the sharp gaze of the vice principal, Huai Shi’s face turned green.

Dammit, old man, that’s not righteous at all. You’re burying me under problems in front of leadership when we’re strangers; what’s the point!

”Mr. Huai, I’ve heard of you—from my kin and friends, I learned of the things you’ve done, and I deeply admire it.”

Professor Matsumoto said in a low voice: ”Although it’s absurd, I feel that if apart from the principal there is another trustworthy person in the Ivory Tower, it must be you.”

No, no, no, you’ve misunderstood from the start. When has Luo Su, that Old Turtle, ever had anything to do with integrity in his life? Also, why are you giving me such high praise?

I haven’t done anything, dammit!

”So, what do you see in me?” Huai Shi wanted to cry but had no tears. You tell me, I’ll change, alright?

Professor Matsumoto meaningfully raised his head and looked behind him: ”I believe—if it were Mr. Isaac, he would definitely not make the decision to destroy the Town of Dusk.”

”...”

Isaac did not speak, maintaining a cold silence, offering no defense.

Indeed, he would do anything to secure the Town of Dusk’s power for the Ivory Tower, but he would never destroy such a massive source of energy for the sake of so-called morality...

Huai Shi was speechless.

With a slap.

He raised his hand, heavily slapping his face.

Profoundly realizing the deep truth that ’every foolish thing you’ve done will come back to haunt you in the future.’

Who knows how long the Ivy League had hung him up because of this, he couldn’t shake off the hat of the top prodigal and moral hypocrite in the territory.

He was about to argue and explain, but then he saw—

Behind the thick security glass, the elderly professor, Matsumoto Genichiro, who has taught and nurtured countless students over forty years and holds great respect in the school, slowly stood up.

Ignoring the shackles on his legs and arms.

He bent over, solemnly bowed, lowering his knees to kneel before the young person in front of him who is less than a quarter of his age, offering an apology.

Bow to the ground.

”I’m sorry, Mr. Huai Shi, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have involved you.”

The old man knelt on the ground, hoarsely pleading: ”But besides you, I can’t think of anyone else willing or able to help me. I’m begging you.”

He lowered his head, coughing, humbly pleading: ”Please, help me, help us...”

Huai Shi was dumbfounded.

As he instinctively reached out to support him, his hands hit the interrogation room’s glass, triggering the alarm, nearly causing the people in the surveillance room to call security directly.

When he was at a loss to console Professor Matsumoto and lowered his head, he saw the traces of scales on the back of his neck.

Professor Matsumoto was one of the Beastified Characteristic Beings.

Or, using the most common term... a Hybrid.

In silence, Professor Matsumoto lay on the ground, like a cracked stone sculpture, causing Huai Shi to lose all strength, collapsing in his chair, rubbing his forehead, unable to help but sigh: ”So, what’s really going on? Please at least let me see the records and files...”

Isaac waved his hand behind him, and naturally, a Jurisdiction Bureau officer brought up the situation involved in the case.

Within the Astronomical Society, Huai Shi still belonged to the official Inspector and Military Officer sequence, so at least he had the authority to know the situation of the incident.

Seeing the two big characters in the title, he couldn’t help the corner of his eye twitch.

Green Day.

Again, damn Green Day.

Since his debut, he seems to have been at odds with this organization, going out for a job interview to encounter a goldfish seller, befriending someone only to be stabbed in the back, going out for shady deals and meeting Green Day’s smugglers, even sitting on a train he can encounter their Great Commander Current Circumstances escaping, so to speak, offending them from Xinhai to Yingzhou, from Current Circumstances to the border.

The conflict is simply a 360-degree deadlock.

According to the file description, in recent months, Green Day’s activity frequency in Current Circumstances is outrageously frequent, especially in the Yingzhou area—in the interference of various factors, the situation in several fixed Hybrid gathering areas has become increasingly unstable, with deteriorating security showing an impending trend of losing control.

Various clues indicate that someone is linking Hybrids across regions, conspiring a revolt...

And among them, in the photos taken by informants, there is a vague silhouette pointing to one of Professor Matsumoto’s students.

Huai Shi breathed a sigh of relief.

Thought it was a big deal, my legs are still shaking.

”Don’t worry, don’t worry, it’s just a minor issue, it has nothing to do with you, Professor.” Huai Shi comforted: ”Besides, maybe it just looks similar? The photo is so blurry, it might not be...”

”No.”

His words were interrupted by Professor Matsumoto.

The professor, disheartened as if lifeless, raised his eyes and calmly admitted: ”That must be ’God City’ himself, without a doubt.”

God City Future.

Male, thirty-two years old, genetics scholar, registered name ’Differentiation’.

Born as a prodigy in the slums as a hybrid, he educated himself using incomplete textbooks and officially enrolled in Empire University at the age of thirteen.

Then, two years later, he became a scholar at fifteen, if not for Martin breaking his record later, he might have been the youngest scholar in decades.

A true prodigy.

Making someone like Huai Shi, who is academically challenged, ashamed and have nowhere to hide. If not for the Book of Fate, he wouldn’t even speak the Dongxia language fluently.

After becoming a scholar, God City Future did not slack off and began focusing on the field of gene expression in genetics, achieving significant results.

Unfortunately, his radical political views on mixed-race rights were more famous than his talent.

An activist.

He advocated for mixed-race rights through violent movements and revolutions, expressing extreme dissatisfaction and disgust with the conservative policies of the Jurisdiction Bureau.

In hindsight, his involvement with Green Day is not surprising.

Over the years, Professor Matsumoto was frequently warned by various parties because of God City’s radical views. But due to his appreciation of talent, he never took any action against God City nor cut any of his budgets. Instead, besides teaching him experimentation, he often advised and counseled him in life.

For a period, their relationship was akin to father and son, cooperating seamlessly, achieving numerous results...

”He was my best student, I originally hoped he could carry on my legacy... I didn’t expect him to be so irrational.”

The aging Professor Matsumoto murmured softly: ”No, now it seems, he must have been thoroughly disappointed with the current situation? It’s just that, out of respect for an old fool like me, he had to pretend to be on the same page... It’s too foolish, God City, too foolish, why would you do such a thing?”

Seeing the elderly man looking haggard and numb, Huai Shi sighed with sympathy: ”So, you hope I can help you, make your student change his mind?”

”At this point, how can I have the face to say such words.”

Matsumoto raised his head, whether it was self-mockery or helplessness, he forced a difficult smile at Huai Shi—if the twitching of his mouth could count as a smile.

He said: ”Please kill him before he harms more people.”

Huai Shi widened his eyes.

A month ago, God City Future suddenly disappeared without a word.

Initially, everyone thought it was a disappearance or kidnapping. After all, his current research project holds great value, and if a monopoly group wanted to do something with their project, this would be their best chance.

Matsumoto Genichiro ran around various places, begged for searches, but ultimately, it was as if the stone sank into the sea, with no result.

Yet his heart still held a glimmer of hope.

At least there was no body, at least that indicates he is still alive—the research results being stolen doesn’t matter at all, as long as God City is willing to cooperate, those who know the valuable worth of a scholar would definitely treat him well and generously, right?

With such unrealistic fantasies, he endured a long month.

When the Inspector of the Astronomical Society came to visit, he finally understood what his missing student had done—

”He took all the laboratory data and virus samples, violated the scholars’ commandments, and trampled on the achievements of all participants.”

Matsumoto slowly raised his head and said in a trembling voice: ”If it were just this, it would only be my blind eyes, entrusting the wrong person, but what he wants to do is even more excessive and cruel—”

”Professor Matsumoto, Matsumoto, Genichiro—”

Vice Principal Isaac, who had been silently listening in the corner, suddenly raised his eyes, his expression became cold: ”You’re not suggesting, God City took the project you’ve been working on recently, are you?”

Matsumoto closed his eyes in desperation.

Only Huai Shi looked around in confusion, not understanding what was happening.

Soon, the research results and data of Professor Matsumoto were laid out before him.

[Single-stranded Negative-sense RNA Virus]

This is a virus catalyzed through a special environment with Sendai Virus, ultimately artificially catalyzed under harsh conditions, but it is actually non-infectious, and the symptoms are so weak they don’t even compare with a cold, except for a low fever lasting about three hours, it poses no harm to humans.

It’s a tool, a brand new cell fusion inducer.

”You can imagine, it’s just like a welding torch—” Vice Principal succinctly explained: ”It’s like welding two cells together in this manner, artificially grafting, only more efficient and convenient than any tools used before, and even able to achieve many things previously impossible. If successful, it would definitely be a groundbreaking innovation, a miracle in biology.”

Huai Shi widened his eyes.

Frightened...

Casually grafting and fusing cells, this is already close to the domain of the Creator!

If this law could be completely mastered and engraved into the pillars of Current Circumstances, Matsumoto Genichiro could become a bona fide Creator!

But its truly valuable aspect, for Matsumoto, is definitely not in this.
