Chapter 423: Chapter 365: Wretched beast, what do you understand!_1

It was noon on the fourth day.

Darkness reigned. There was no scorching Sun overhead, nor could one see the awe-inspiring sight of cloudless skies over parched earth.

Only the sound of the tides began to rise from afar.

It was a deep echo formed by countless fragmented and noisy sounds overlapping, seeming to emanate from all directions, as if blanketing the heavens and the earth.

Under the illumination of the lone star, even the steel cities of the Titan Empire began to sway.

Then, a series of sharp friction noises burst forth.

Viscous oil surged through layers of pipes, and with the massive pressure of pistons, hundreds of thousands of hydraulic pumps roared into action, uniformly lifting the entire city over a meter high!

Under the control of the Storks, a liquid buffer layer permeating the entire city was rapidly forming, supporting itself between the steel city and the ground.

”Feels like a latex mattress,” Huai Shi glanced, seeming eager to try bouncing on it, but was hastily stopped by the Phoenix. ”Forget it, let’s not rush to play... Once this is over, I’ll have Old Wu make you one! Right, Old Wu, right?”

The fox, sporting two dark circles under its eyes, listlessly lifted its head and numbly nodded. It seemed completely worn out, as if on the verge of social death from sheer exhaustion.

In reality, although some misunderstandings had occurred due to the misuse of words, they didn’t last long. Everyone just wanted to feign confusion and seize this rare opportunity to tease him a bit. After all, this guy had made many people suffer in silence before. Now that they finally had a chance to see him become the butt of a joke, why wouldn’t they fan the flames and add fuel to the fire?

In response, the fox could only resign itself to its bad luck, not even entertaining the thought of revenge. Huai Shi didn’t seem like a good target for retaliation. A seventeen-year-old giant Erha who doesn’t know the meaning of swallowing his pride? Once enraged, his destructive power would be the stuff of nightmares. So, better not... At least it still had a sense of the bigger picture. But as for whether it would make things difficult for a certain seventeen-year-old Military Officer once they were out of this... well, that was hard to say.

The reason it looked so haggard was entirely the result of overtime.

During these four days, not only had the hectic preparations left no time for rest, but its immense innate talent had also been activated countless times. Like a supercomputer prone to overheating, the entire fox now appeared listless, its fur curled and dull.

Now, as the gray tide gradually approached, everyone’s expression turned serious, and silence fell.

In the darkness, only the blindingly bright and flickering flashes of electrical current emanating from Huai Shi’s body were visible, constantly pouring into the towering iron tower behind him. At this moment, he resembled a marionette, streams of cold, blue, harsh electric light flickering between the joints of his limbs and the iron tower, leaving transient rifts like Afterimages in the darkness. Merely approaching, one could feel the vast static field prickling one’s skin and hair.

”How’s the charging progress?” asked the Phoenix.

”So-so,” Huai Shi shook his head. ”The resistance is still too high. Theoretically, it could reach 150 percent, but after 120 percent, the rate of power loss almost matches my charging speed. Aside from a single burst, it’s not very useful.”

Despite his words, the electrical power Huai Shi currently carried was already comparable to a massive thunderstorm. If released at such close range, all the large-scale facilities within the Titan Empire would likely be crippled by the terrifying impact.

”But haven’t technologies been continuously updated recently? Why still use electrical power?” Huai Shi asked curiously. ”I’ve heard that many Borders within the Astronomical Society have already adopted more advanced energy sources. Why haven’t I seen them in the Current Circumstances?”

”Because electricity is the most convenient.”

The Maintenance Engineer leading the team on Huai Shi’s back replied over the communication, ”Although the most advanced technology currently used in the Current Circumstances—aside from Original sources like Firepower, wind, and water power—is nuclear fission for generating electricity, experiments at the Scholars’ Borders are exploring much more. Not only nuclear fusion and room-temperature nuclear fusion, but even the laws related to vacuum zero-point energy are under investigation. There are already about seven or eight energy sources more advanced than electricity.

”The places you mentioned are likely independent institutions with high energy demands that are unsuitable for perennial connection with the outside world. Due to secrecy or various internal safety reasons, they must sever their reliance on external sources and therefore adopt other forms of energy.

”Those examples do not apply to the Current Circumstances.

”In the current classification of energy sciences, electrical engineering, which has evolved for nearly six hundred years, remains the most complete, stable, and trustworthy system. Every detail has been maximally aligned with the three great seals by successive generations of Scholars and the Creator. After the establishment of the four fundamental forces, a degree of conversion between electricity and past Magic Power has even been achieved.

”Maintaining the Current Circumstances is a delicate matter. If laws for other energy sources were rashly incorporated, any conflicting details in the regulations could lead to unforeseen and disastrous situations...”

”So, if too many strange MODs are installed and they’re incompatible, the game crashes, right?”
